Say you buy one and its like 2 hours long. But for some reason you have to flip it over to watch the second half of the movie. Happened to me only one. Time. Though.
Literally.

My Goodfellas DVD is like that.
I guess that’s what I get for a $3.75 purchase.

It's somewhat understandable to have it be a flip disc if it's a long movie, but a single DVD disc now can handle a 2.5-3 hour movie. Maybe it wasn't like this in the early days of DVD.

The only I remember buying that was something like was the Superman special edition dvd.
It was two sided with the movie on one side and the special features on the other.

Some flip DVDs have the movie in widescreen on one side and fullscreen on the other.

it actually really doesn.t bother me though. it.s actually kinda nice though even. Don.t gotta sit through the whole movie in one sitting that way.
With regular normal dvd.s then...you feel like to have to watch it all in one sitting.

I might have about 10 that need flipping - I can think of the original DVD release of The Wild Bunch, Giant, Goodfellas, etc

I have a few flipper discs, but none where the same movie is on both sides.
In addition, my DVD set for "The Prisoner", The Complete Series (40th Anniversary Collector's Edition), seems to use single sided discs. There are only 17 episodes, but they spread them across 10 discs.

I remember having some in the early days but I can't recall the titles. The funny thing is that most laserdiscs were double sided but the better players had a feature that would swap sides without having to take the discs out. I don't remember any DVD players with that capability. It was almost as if they regressed in technology at least with regards to that particular feature.

I have about 30 of those. Hate them. Instead of worrying about one side getting scratched you have to worry about 2 sides.

From what I remember I had ‘Salem’s Lot’ & ‘The Wild Bunch’ on two-sided discs until I updated them to bluray.
