Double or tripple the size, or more? Would there be a problem if we made really big comfort planes for long flights? It would be certainly possible. However experience with the failed A380 indicates problems not with the technology but with ancilary services. It can take an inordinate time to load and unload 500 passengers. 1000 passengers would force carriers to design new loading procedures and lounges. The A380 can take of and land at a limited number of airports. An aircraft twice the size would need purpose built airports. Add these difficulties to the likelihood that economies of scale may not exist means carriers would be even less interested in a larger aircraft than the A380.
