did this once on the books and indian cinema board on the old IMDB. sometimes we look towards art for some comfort from the awful realities of life. name and describe characters from the movies that you identify with and wished they were your best friends.
my choices:
PERRY (robert blake) from IN COLD BLOOD - such a tortured character who lets his inner demons consume him. LUKE (paul newman) from COOL HAND LUKE - does not let prison and society kill his free spirit. TRAVIS BICKLE (taxi driver) - i have lived alone in big cities and i have walked around feeling lonely and angry like him. JAKE LA MOTTA (robert de niro) from THE RAGING BULL - very volatile person but i could identify with his paranoia. the four male leads in SORCERER - they were so down and out. a posse of men bound together with not a chance of escaping their situation. ENID (thora birch) - reminded me of holden from catcher in the rye. WILLY SOAK (billy bob thornton) from BAD SANTA - one of the greatest characters of 21st century american cinema who exemplifies the disgust and weariness that i feel with society in general. THERMAN MERMAN (brett kelly) from BAD SANTA - one of the greatest underdog characters in the movies. JIM (casey affleck) from LONESOME JIM - another character unable to deal with the outside world.
name your choices.

pimpinainteasyI understand the identify with part BUT they are interesting choices for friends. I am hoping it's because you feel that by be-friending them you can turn their lives around and make them not so killer and violence oriented, personality-wise. As they are, these guys are gonna KILL you one of these days. I would like to know Sully from Nobody's Fool, Sandra Bullock's pretty much anyone, Thelma and/or Louise might be fun to hang out with (if they are not driving). Great idea for a thread. Food for thought here!

Beatrice and Benedick - Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof in “Much Ado About Nothing” (2012) - would be a fun couple to know and double date with.
I would say the same thing about Nick and Nora Charles – William Powell and Myrna Loy in the Thin Man series, mid-1930s (although they drank all day long and into the night and would probably leave me and My Lovely Wife far behind).
I would also take into my home and be Best Friends Forever with any number of dogs and cats who have had major roles in film. For example:
Lassie in “Lassie Come Home” (1943) Old Yeller in the film named for him (1957) D.C., Siamese cat in “That Darn Cat (1965) Jonesy, the Nostromo’s cat in “Alien” (1979) Gadzookey, played by Fluffy the cat in “Listen Up Philip” (2014)

Would I ever love to have George Milton and Lenny Small and Candy and Crooks living in a nice little house on the back 40 acres.
Lenny would, of course, get to tend the rabbits.

Archie Bunker (Carroll O'Connor)
Moe, Larry & Curly
Chico Marx
Eleanor Powell (best dancer I've ever watched)
Claude Rains
...sorry, these are real people who I appreciated in all the films I saw them in...

I'm with mikef6 on Beatrice and Benedick, though I'd pick the '93 version (I found the '12 version wildly overrated), and especially on Nick and Nora Charles, whom I would love to consider real friends. Also: Prof. Nicholas and Susan Potter, from Holiday ('38), partially because, as I've noted elsewhere on this forum, I have real-life friends who are nearly these characters' doppelgängers. A number of characters Jimmy Stewart played, including Sen. Jefferson Smith ( Mr. Smith Goes to Washington), Elwood P. Dodd ( Harvey), and of course George Bailey, one of my favorite characters of all time ( It's a Wonderful Life). Atticus Finch, both book and film ( To Kill a Mockingbird). I'm sure I'll think of others soon, but those are my first choices.
