We'll see where he is healthwise next spring, I guess. NESN reported they were 'shutting him down for the regular season' last night, as if there will be a postseason for the Sox this year.

It felt, to me anyway, that the Red Sox had resigned themselves to not repeating this year from the time training camps opened. They sleepwalked through March and just were crap from the beginning of the regular season. Like they said "Well it's too hard to repeat so why bother"? The starting pitching was overrated and then underperformed but this team is better than the way they have played. I thought Alex Cora would have done something to light a fire but no.

It was uncharted territory, really. How do you come back from a season like 2018, they essentially faced zero adversity from spring training on. Cora's whole thing about not turning the page this season really blew up in his face, and it was all downhill from there.

Won a ton of regular season games, bulldozed through the playoffs blah blah. The 1999 Yankees won 16 fewer games. But still won the WS.

Yeah but they still had a lot of the core (Pettite, Rivera, O'Neill, Williams, Posada, Martinez, etc.) that had won in 96 and 98. They knew what it took to get it done more than once. The 2018 Sox kind of came out of nowhere (well, except for the whole highest payroll in baseball thing) with so many young guys and role players making huge contributions. I'm not making excuses, it's pathetic the way they've played. They clearly haven't been able to handle the success. Maybe the train starts rolling again next season? That Yankees dynasty won in 96, 98, 99, 2000. Maybe this is the off year for a Sox dynasty? I can dream, can't I?

That Yankees dynasty won in 96, 98, 99, 2000. Maybe this is the off year for a Sox dynasty? I can dream, can't I? One of the biggest reasons for the Sox in 2018 was getting rid of John Farrell. Farrell won it all in his first year but shouldn't have. They would have been run out of the ALCS by Detroit in for for David Ortiz. Then Farrell did nothing. Might be deja vu with Cora, This team had none of the spark that last years team did. The one great difference between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox is that the Yanks expect to win the World Series every year and the Sox are surprised to win. The franchise had (still has) an excuse mentality. Harry Frazee, Pesky's Pause, 1978, The Curse of the Bambino, Aaron Boone. You never hear that crap from the Bronx. Easy to underachieve when you have a built in excuse. And its still there even after 4 rings in 14 years. And 2020 should be better. Team needs starters. Money comes off the books. Porcello and that fat fuck Sandoval. Could be some use in helping the bullpen and adding another starter. But Mookie goes to arbitration this year and FA next. They have to keep him. And the core is as solid as anyone. The right side of the infield is as good as Houston's or anyone else. Corner outfield is awesome. Chris Vasquez will be behind the plate for years. The team had to learn to develop pitchers, especially starters.

It's hard to repeat in baseball. but is chris sale intimidated by andrew ca$hner??! I think Chris Sale is intimidated by his own shadow, tbh. If there is a more overblown, overhyped, overrated athlete in any sport, feel free to tell me who it is. I'm waiting......
