www.ign.com/articles/2019/08/13/disney-apparently-considering-sequel-to-live-action-aladdinAladdin producer Dan Lin has seemingly let the genie out of the lamp regarding a possible sequel to the 2019 live-action remake, which grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Lin revealed that Disney was in the early stages of "exploring" where it could go with a potential Aladdin franchise, considering the staggering ticket sales of this year's release. "We certainly when we first made the movie wanted to just make the best movie we could and let audiences tell us if they wanted to see more," he explained. "And I would say resoundingly audiences want to see more. They've watched this movie multiple times." "We have lots of fan letters about people who really go back and they bring their friends and bring their family. And so we feel like there's more story to tell," he added. Lin went on to say that the House of Mouse would want to explore a whole new world if it were to develop a follow-up film, asserting that the studio wouldn't replicate anything that had been done previously. "We are going to treat it the same way we treat the original Aladdin [live-action] movie and not going to do a shot-by-shot remake of anything that's been done before," he said, adding, "We're really looking at what's been done before in the past and the home video, and there's just more story to tell with the underlying materials. So without giving away too much, we are certainly exploring where we can go with this franchise." Lin's alluding to The Return of Jafar, the direct-to-video sequel to the original animated film, and Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the second sequel in that musical trilogy.

"I do not like repeat successes, I like to go on to other things." -Walt Disney
"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because were curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." -Walt Disney

I mean why wouldn’t they? The first one made gobs and gobs of money.
And now I get to complain about another one of these. Aren’t you guys lucky?

I'm a genie in a bottle, and this just rubs me the wrong way.

I don't want to see their lame-as-fuck version of Jafar again. If they used some arch-villains from the cartoon, that'd be interesting.

Hopefully a better Jafar. I think Alexander Siddig would be a Great Choice!

I'm not surprised at the notion of them making a sequel to Aladdin, but I am curious if they will make a sequel to the remake of The Lion King.

Sequels of remakes. Disney, the arbiter of great ideas (that seem to make money for some reason).

Well, at least it won't rehash Return of Jafar (knock on wood).
