I can't get enough of him here. He is outrageously sexy. He is certainly cute w/nice build, but it's the way he moves to this song, frame by frame, that's got me spellbound. Those tight pants and the exposed navel and the dazed look are ON FIRE!!!! As appealing and sexy and lovely as Juliet Prowse is here, I just can't help but feel that Sal would always upstage the female every time with his torturous ways. Lately I can't seem to get off the nut, re: narcissism, but this boy had it in spades and I am totally into him!!!

It’s a shame he met an untimely end. From memory, he was stabbed to death in the street or something...

Lately I can't seem to get off the nut, re: narcissism, but this boy had it in spades and I am totally into him!!! Mineo appeared to know how to showcase and embrace his own maleness and even his sexuality behind this and he also doesn't appear afraid of this either. He would have known he looked good and while he was of a thinner\smaller build, confidence instilled in him would have been a very useful tool.
I only really know of him from Rebel, but I could imagine anything he was in, he would have caught the attention of the viewers eye and leave an impression. Was he a narcissist?! Well, I guess when you look that good and have talent, it would be difficult to undermine yourself and his real personality would have been telling here, but I really don't know hardly anything about him.
He was hot in that clip and the girl he was dancing with was lovely too. The camera did seem to focus on her body and moves more, but with what they did show of him and when he was in the frame with her, he was the one that caught my eye the most and I would say she just got the most cameraman\direction attention, because he was upstaging her. Oh and of course, we can't have male sexuality doing it for other dudes as well. That would be too gay....

Unrecognizable should bring out the acting talent to the front. I could imagine some actors not being too comfortable with the ape makeup, but overall its disconcerting that Mineo couldn't see it as a fun experience. What other roles was he going to play? It was work for an actor and he wasn't the only one that was going through the makeup procedure. I think perhaps Mineo had some serious hangups by then.

His skin had a bad reaction to the makeup, you dumbass. As I recall, so did Edward G. Robinson who was to play Dr. Zaius.

If that is the case, then these articles are never worth taking a face value, unlike you because you are so shallow there is no depth to you, and it then comments on Mineo feeling like the role was beneath him— pardon the pun.

It's from the Planet of the Apes documentary. Sal Mineo was supposed to have a longer role in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" but he was allergic to the makeup, and his character was killed off early.. Look, sorry for the dumbass thing. Better now?

Yeah! Well we know that nothing reported in tabloids should be taken at face value and stories get made up. I would believe the retrospect doco more than a fake news article.

To me personally, no. However, I think the girl in the dance clip is very attractive.
I was vaguely aware of his presence in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE and ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES. I'm not sure if I've seen any other films that featured him.
Beyond that fact, he made very little impact on my viewing experience, as I think he was overshadowed by the presence and performances of other actors in both films.

I certainly feel sorry for him for suffering from claustrophobia and skin irritation due to the ape makeup. However, if he did indeed consider the role beneath him, then I can't say I care for his attitude on that point. ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES is the main reason I'd even heard of him in the first place.
