Ok so here's my review of this past Saturday night, The Calling at The Foundry, the smaller part of The Fillmore: . . .
I'd love to see The Calling if I ever had a chance, but your experience wasn't good. I HATE when bands come on late.

Just got back from Vegas today. Went up for Dokken playing free at Fremont Street. Was a pretty similar set list to when they played at Vinyl in September. Even if Don can't hit those notes anymore (and doesn't even try), I adore them. They will always be one of my favorites. Love Jon Levin, too.
Also saw Seether at House of Blues. I'm more of an 80's era rock fan so wasn't too familiar with their songs, though I really liked what I sampled. Semi-seriously, they need to post a warning for people with epilepsy in regard to their usage of lighting. (I've seen movies with milder light effects which had warnings for epileptics.) Anyway, I really enjoyed their show -- really fierce and energetic. Opening were the Dead Deads and 10 Years. Wasn't familiar with either, but they were pretty good, especially 10 Years. Really charismatic lead singer in Jesse.

Iron fucking Maiden...Legacy of the Beast!
Honestly, one of the best nights of my life. Third time seeing Maiden and this blows the others out of the park. Great setlist, amazing stage show and pyrotechnics, and Bruce hit every single fucking high note - something he didn't even attempt to try last times I seen them. His voice seems to have got better!
I'm too young to ever see Maiden in their prime, but this was pretty close to it. Not only nailing every single song but the stage show to go with it was mesmerizing.

I'm still mad I had to miss Iron Maiden when they played Vegas. I already had my trip to Vegas planned for another concert 3 weeks prior to theirs and just couldn't go back that close together. Sigh. . .timing! (Not as bad as the time I found out Joe Lynn Turner had played at Count's Vamp'd 5 days after I left -- though not as bad as if I'd been there and not known.)

You guys in the States are in for a treat when Maiden rock up there with this tour. My only regret is not getting tickets for any of the other UK shows Hopefully they still have some more new album/greatest hits tours in them. It'll be a sad day when Iron Maiden call it quits.

That's why I've tried to catch them as many times as possible in the last 15 years. Coming up on #25

I went to see this same lineup this past june in New Jersey but had to see a 2nd show. I went out the night before but called it an early night and drank a little less so I'd be ready for this. My friends made a big deal out of doing the whole tailgate thing in the lot. Which is fine, but it's not or ever was a priority for me. Especially before a long show. I'm fine with slugging down a couple of beers and heading in the venue. These guys brought chairs, a bbq, coolers, the whole works. So they picked me up early around 2 and we headed out there and made up with like 30 more people we knew in the lot. It was a good time though. I headed in a little before 5 to catch the first band.
I walk in and I got nervous when I didn't see the beer cans on display at the stands. So luckily I asked staff and the dude said the beer garden was open all the way at the other end. I guess because it's a metal show they were scared of people drinking more or something. Whatever.
First up Napalm Death. Pretty good set but a little bit short.
Next up, Testament. One of my favorite bands. Great set but about 7 songs.
Highlight for me was this one:
Next Anthrax. Not as good of a set as last time but it was ok. Highlight was this song
Next up Lamb of god. I was pretty sloshed at this point but I was getting into it.
Texted my friend who I hadn't seen in a few years, and it turns out, he said he was there too. That was kinda bizarre. SO we met over by the bathrooms and BS'd for a little bit and next up was Slayer. Their last tour ever so this was my last time seeing them ever. Great and amazing set. My friends were a bunch of sour pusses saying they weren't impressed. Bunch of ball bags. Here is my favorite of the set.
Overall another awesome night.

I see Hallowed be thy name is back on the set?? I was hoping that one would be laid to rest for good. He was able to hit those notes on Where eagles dare? He struggled with that one on the piece of mind tour. That is amazing. It's always awesome when they open with Aces High. Just gotta make sure you're not on a bathroom line or something when that happens. I see Flight of Icarus is on there. Haven't heard them do that one in a long time.

25 times seeing Maiden...no wonder you're sick of Hallowed be Thy Name. It is an absolute must at any show imo. Bruce seemed to hit every high note in HBTN, Where Eagles Dare and Number of the Beast. Don't know if he's putting more effort in as its a legacy tour or else he has just been managing his voice over the years but from my experience and what others have said, this is the best he has sounded since the 80s. And he just turned 60 yesterday! Agree with you on Aces High - the absolute perfect opening to any gig and the stage design for it is incredible. And Flight of Icarus is immense too with Bruce singing with flamethrowers in each hand. To be honest, my favourite songs of the night were actually the two Blaze tunes in The Clansman and Sign of the Cross. Bruce absolutely owned them and Sign of the Cross, especially, is amazing. Even Janick (who I am not the biggest fan of) was on point and nailed his solos.

You don't half get to a lot of gigs man. Didn't even realize Slayer were on their last ever tour! Sounds like a great night with a great lineup.

I've seen it like over 20 times live and plus I have like over a hundred bootlegs and it's on almost every one of them. Sign of the Cross is a great track. I haven't heard that one played live in person yet so I am looking forward to that. X factor has some strong tracks on it. Man on the edge and Lord of the flies also are favorites of mine. I am looking forward to flight of icarus

Agree with you on The X Factor - very underrated by a lot of Maiden fans. Blaze may not have suited Maiden as a frontman and live performer, but he has a really good voice and helped produce some great tracks. Even Virtual XI, whilst containing the worst song Steve Harris has ever written, isn't that bad and didn't warrant the criticism it got imo.
Speaking of Blaze Bayley, I caught him a few years ago in a grotty, dingy rock club in Ireland and he was fantastic. His solo stuff is really good and sang a few of his Maiden tracks as well. He also did Wasted Years which was brilliant.

I have never heard much of his solo stuff though. that's pretty cool that you saw him live like that. I went to that show where they had Tim Owens, Geoff Tate, and Blaze all doing their sets and that was the only time I saw Blaze live. It was like a triple bill but they also had openers. I believe it was all Maiden he did on that particular show though if I remember correctly.

Great Descendents show Thursday night, they sounded just as great as always, and the opener A Wilhelm Scream were awesome, great punk/hardcore band from MA, the other opener was ok, Smoking Popes, they were good to listen to for a bit and I enjoyed them live, but not somebody I liked enough to buy anything from or see again.. Aand I don't have to put too much more detail into this review since you don't like punk, haha..

Glenn hughes show pretty much rocked. But no opening bands. The whole show was 90 minutes and I was out of there by 9:45. Boy they really don't give you a night out at some of these shows. I guess I should be used to it from going to Foreigner shows and Dennis Deyoung and all that at the theaters. Great set though closing it out with Burn. It was a good draw. A lot of people came down.
