J.T. Realmuto was placed on one a few weeks back. Question - for a team in the playoff hunt - is this 'OK' with you. No - Man up and help your team or Yes - Being present for your child's birth comes first Thoughts?

What if you played for the Celtics and you were playing the Lakers in Game #7 of the NBA Championship? Wife was due. Would you miss the game?

The answer to this is yes. Coming from someone who doesn't have, and has no desire to ever have, children.

Would you let down millions of Bostonians - transplants and those in the New England region for the birth of your child?

I'd have them roll a gurney out and the training staff could deliver the kid at the end of the bench.

Your wife was due prior to game time. Would you still miss the game? Yes, although the scenario is amazingly unlikely. Today, they could simply induce her in between games so its not an issue. You could be there during labor, and be back at the stadium with plenty of time to spare. I remember a few years ago, Daniel Murphy missed Opening Day at Citi Field because his wife was giving birth. Everyone with a soul congratulated Daniel and didn't care that he missed the game. Boomer Esiason, on the other hand, acted like Opening Day was some sort of sacrosanct entity and Daniel Murphy's missing it was a massive slap in the face to the team, the fans and the City of New York. Boomer was rightly ridiculed for that stance.

Let's keep in mind these complications are not life threatening to the mother and child as long as the birth is 'ASAP' Would you Klawrencio79 - the starting pitcher of the New York Mets in Game 7 of the World Series vs. The Yanks - miss the game letting down your teammates and millions upon millions of New Yorkers.

Maybe my wife would enjoy it, you don't know her. I can hear Marv Albert already. "ReyKahuka Jr. takes it hard to the hole! YES!! And a foul!!!"

My answer isn't going to change. Would make for an awkward February when Pitchers and Catchers report if the Yanks won Game #7. Also if you let down your teammates if they had incentives in their contracts for winning a World Series. Wonder if you'd be given the cold shoulder by your teammates or welcome and given a congrats.

They should simply postpone the game until a few days after the baby is born.

They should simply postpone the game until a few days after the baby is born. I like it. It is Baby Harper after all - not some Ham & Egger like Andrew Knapp.
