So apparently Colts fans are booing Luck during a preseason game. That's pretty shitty. I would boo his ass right now as well if I were a Colts fan. What’s shitty is Luck’s decision to quit on the team right before the season starts, ruining their season when they were expected to be a top tier team. Then that is pretty shitty of you. He is a human being and as a human being his own health, mentally and physically comes first. Whatever this new leg/calf/bone injury is clearly has changed his mindset and viewpoint on this season. (He hasn't been able to practice for months)The timing sucks sure, but it's his decision to make. Fans are just being salty, he doesn't owe them anything. It's his life and he's choosing that this is the best decision for himself and probably his family. If it's selfish to worry about one's health more so than the organization where he is stepping away from 50+ million dollars in order to do so than by all means call him selfish. Imo it would be far more selfish of him to just collect the pay checks while sitting on the IR.

I'm sure the Colts already knew for a while this was a possibility. And with all the praise that Jim Irsay gave to Jacoby Brissett the past two years, they probably had already decided he was the one who would replace Luck if he was to indeed retire.

Poor O.J. His team is as dead as Nicole.

Brissett is a decent player and starter-caliber. He actually played pretty well in 2017 when he’d just arrived and didn’t even know the offense. He can slot in behind the Colts’ terrific o-line and surprise people. Obviously, he’s no Luck and I wouldn’t call the Colts Super Bowl contenders necessarily anymore but they should still be competitive and possibly push for the playoffs.

The timing shows that Luck is a selfish player, if he wanted to retire he should’ve done so at the end of the 2018 season, quitting 2 weeks before the season starts is a dick move, period. The Colts had high hopes for the 2019 season, and Luck just crapped on it, I would be livid if I was a Colts fan, they were going to have a very strong team and now their season is uncertain but they will likely be subpar.

Stunned, obviously. The timing is, clearly, the worst part but ultimately we’re talking about a game. The man’s health and ability to live a pain-free life is more important than any game. If only he had the o-line he has (or had) now throughout his whole career. The Ryan Grigson era really fucked him up.

Pretty sure he has/had his job because of his talent not because some fans cheered for him. 2. He didn't have this current injury when the 2018 season ended. It's been quite clear this new injury (which has been a mystery wtf it is since) that popped up a couple months ago which has kept him out of practice has impacted his decision to retire. Again, he didn't have this injury when the season ended so no reason for him to retire then. Clearly something has changed from then til now. Again, his own life and health come before anything else.

Coming into this year I'd have ranked him and Nick Mullins as the top 2 back up QB's in the NFL. I think they'll be competent still this year.

You know jimanchower was one of the douchebags booing Luck tonight. Guy did everything he could for a franchise that didn't try to protect him for most of his career. After career threatening injury #100 he decides to call it a day, and they boo him.

I’m not sure jimanchower will ever post again. To think, Andrew Luck retires before Tom Brady. Imagine tellling Jim that 5 years ago?

You make a good point about his current injury, I’m not familiar with the circumstances surrounding it, if it’s something that just happened recently that is keeping him from playing it’s a valid reason to quit. About the fans, all football players have jobs because of the fans, the fans are the reason why football exists. So yeah he does owe something to the Colts fans and organization, and I understand the anger and disappointment of the Colts fans who were expecting them to be Super Bowl contenders and now their season and future is uncertain, and I can’t say that I wouldn’t have booed. If he feels like he can’t go on because of whatever this injury is, then quitting is the right move, but it’s really shitty timing to quit 2 weeks before the season begins especially when the team has such high expectations for the season, if it’s just a mental thing or him being unhappy I feel that Luck should’ve played 1 more year or quit at the end of last season. All I’m saying is that I understand the fans anger and would be upset as well.

The AFC South is going to be all kinds of fun this year Who do you pick now that Luck is quitting and going home?
Kind of a dick move by the fans to boo him but also a shit move for him to quit with 2 weeks to go to show time. Then again, he dealt with a crap coach and a terrible team like Barry Sanders had to deal with years ago and after getting banged up, Luck decided to quit before it got worse.
Wouldn't be surprised if he came back a year or 2 down the road with another team.

I’m picking the Jags, they made the AFC Title Game 2 years ago with Bortles at QB and Foles is far superior to him, and they still have a strong defense. They will have a rebound season after their disappointing 2018 IMO.

they will likely be subpar. We’ll see. The Colts were looking extremely strong on both sides of the ball. I’m not expecting a 2011 or 2017 type season. The Colts definitely have a very talented team, but I have no faith in Jacoby Brissett, and you have to have good QB play to succeed in the NFL now, and I’m not sure if Brissett will provide that. If Brissett has a good year, then the Colts will contend for the playoffs, but with Luck I thought they were Super Bowl contenders.

Did you see what he was able to do in 2017 learning a shitty offense on the fly behind an appalling o-line? A lot better than a lot of QBs would've managed, I'd say. People underestimate the importance of good line play. With a great offensive line (which the Colts very much have now), an average QB can play much better. He's not Luck but Brissett has been learning Reich's offense with Luck for a year now and the Colts can protect the passer arguably better than they ever have. Look at me talking myself into the Colts still doing well. Fuck it. They'll still win the division, bitches!

We haven't seen the last of him.
He needs a long mental break.
I think we'll start to hear whispers in the offseason he wants to come back.
He's just mentally broken right now.
Colts can't bank on him anymore though - and need to draft a QB.
It's a shame because a lot of people had them going to the SB this year.
Oh well - there goes my Frank Reich/Andrew Luck vs. Doug Pederson/Carson Wentz dream SB matchup.
