Smile The Bad News Bears
Michael Ritchie's two films about the dark side of "wholesome" Middle America. Cynicism, negativity, insecurity, dysfunctional families, the exploitation of children, and the souring of "happy" suburban life--all the stuff that made the 70s so memorable.

I have to disagree. There is nothing about that movie that reminds me of living on Earth in the 1970s. I never saw storm troopers and tie fighters and lightsabers in my neighborhood as a kid... It scares me to think that you did.

Some already mentioned:
Network Saturday Night Fever
Additional:
Vanishing Point (1971) Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974) Benji (1974) The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977)
Honorable Mention:
Easy Rider (1969)
Much of their "Road Trip" experience could have taken place in the 1970s...

It scares me to think that you did. I interpreted the word "represents" in terms of "iconic movie of the period, with a large cultural impact" as opposed to "portrait of everyday life".
