My Top 5-ish movies of the decade (i.e. 2010-2019)... 1) The American (2010) - 9/10 (one of the most underrated movies on IMDb @ only a 6.3/10 average on IMDb) -) Skyfall (2012)3) True Grit (2010) - 8-8.5/10 (NOTE: this is MUCH better than the 1969 John Wayne movie which is pretty dull (i.e. 4/10)) 4) Edge of Darkness (2010) - 8/10 (quite underrated as it's only got a 6.6/10 average on IMDb) -) Source Code (2011) (my #1 time travel variation movie) -) The Descendants (2011)NOTE: that's everything I scored a SOLID 8/10 or higher (excludes movies I give a 7.5-8/10) in the current decade, which happens to be six movies and that's close enough to five. NOTE: everything listed above is within my Top 40 movies straight up at the minimum with the movies I score a 9/10 being within my Top 16 movies straight up. p.s. True Grit grew a bit stronger on my most recent viewing in May 2019 (was a 8/10 and is now a 8-8.5/10). I have seen this movie at least four times, but probably about five. The Descendants increased in score from a 7.5-8/10 to a 8/10 on my 3rd viewing. I have seen The Descendants a total of five times. Source Code actually dropped a little in score on my most recent viewing in Feb 2019 from a 9/10 to a 8/10 although in the past in Aug 2015 it went from a 8-8.5/10 to a 9/10, which was my previous viewing from the most recent one. Edge of Darkness was a 9/10 until a July 2016 viewing it dropped back to it's current score and then held steady on my most recent viewing in July 2019.
Obviously. because a list based on anything else besides ones personal all around enjoyment of a movie is a waste of time.
those people who attempt to differentiate between 'favorite' and 'best'. it's dishonest because in these peoples cases, 'favorite' is their true opinion where as 'best' is attempting to guess what others might like or guess what's "quality" etc, which is a waste of time.

I was only sure that many would disagree and think my list is odd. I can see differentiating between “best” and “favourite” being a bit unnecessary but in some cases it’s kind of true.

jamesbamesyYeah, I can see it myself (no offense). but at the end of the day... if those five movies are truly what you enjoy watching the most from movies in the 2010-2019 time frame, then that's that, you can't be wrong. but even with your whole 'someone might think my list is odd' comment... I might even say Raimo47 list is worse in a way as he selected literally nothing but super hero movies where as yours is at least 1-2 different from that mindset. but if he honestly feels those are his five most all around enjoyable movies then in that regard I can't fault him. but when I see a list like his, it's hard not to think about that stereotypical teenager who likes nothing but action/explosions etc, which people like to make fun of. so I could maybe see some super hero movies making someones list, but to literally have all five as super hero movies, it's a bit suspect to me (but I would tend to mostly chalk that one up to ones age for the most part). but like I was saying, I can't fault him if he genuinely likes those the most since strictly sticking to the topic, there is really no wrong answer. but with that said... I suspect his taste in movies will change as he gets older as I can't see many people who have a bit of age on them (say ones who's at least in their 30's or older) selecting literally five super hero movies as their VERY top movies of a given decade as you would think even if some people with a little age on them did select some super hero movies, which I could see happening, they would also have a little variance outside of that to. Maybe on some level (as I can maybe see how some movies are better made, or have better cinematography, than others etc (so more of a technical thing)), but overall it's a waste of time since it's not a true representation for that particular viewer on what they genuinely like the all around most as ones enjoyment is paramount. which is why I just consider 'favorite' and 'best' to be basically the same thing.

If personal favorites is completely subjective (which it is) than it is not possible to disagree with someone else's list. It's like saying "I disagree with the fact that these are your favorite movies." And here is why best and favorite is different. If you tell someone that so and so is the best movie of the year that gives the other person room to argue, because BEST has something objective attached to it when people hear the word. If someone says Zero Dark Thirty is the best movie of 2012, then I can answer with "I hugely disagree" and then I would be able to explain why I don't think it is one of the best movies of the year.

I know you could just argue and disagree with the person about what the best of so and so is. It probably depends on how one sees movies as such. Like for an example, Person A could think that Django Unchained is objectively the best movie of 2012, but Person B disagrees and says that the actual best is Dark Knight Rises. It’s all about perspective of what makes a movie(s) good from a non-opinionated POV.

It’s all about perspective of what makes a movie(s) good from a non-opinionated POV. Then nobody should ever argue about movies if that is the case. Sure, certain plot holes, bad writing, bad acting etc. in certain places will bother some people more than others, but bad writing is bad writing whether it bothers the person or not. I like TDKR a lot but it has bad writing in many areas. Then there will people who disagree that it has bad writing and in that case I would disagree to the point of saying they are wrong. Or maybe we talk and something I see as bad writing isn't actually bad writing and that person has made me like the movie even more than I already do. Just to be clear I personally think the good/great aspects of TDKR far outweigh the not so good aspects of the movie.

I'm 39.
I chose only superhero movies because I like them, and because the 2010s is my least favorite decade of movies.
I just checked my top 100 movies list, and the best superhero movie is on the 42nd place.
