1. The Shining (1980)
Good list? Shit list? Meh list?
"The Shining" at number one? Absolute rubbish. The only thing that could account for that placement is England's long standing crush on Stanley Kubrick. After having for years to watch all their top film directors bug out to America, they succumbed to puppy love over a top American director who would actually come to settle in England.

2 titles I like but don't think are top 50 worthy are Scream (#3?!) and Get Out.
Stanley Kubrick made the #1, or close to it, movie in every genre he worked in.

Kinda meh for me. I don't understand the love for Kubrick either. I'm not saying he isn't good, just a tad overrated. That too goes for Stephen King also. His books are great but his movies not so. No Eli Roth either? I know he's not everyone's taste but there is no doubt he's a horror fan.

How is pan's labyrinth NOT a horror? It had at best one scary scene. Overall it was horror like Lord of the Rings is horror. The whole thing is horror, its about a girl who has no family or people, who is going through many tribualtions, according to the definition: In literature, horror (pronounced hawr-er) is a genre of fiction whose purpose is to create feelings of fear, dread, repulsion, and terror in the audience—in other words, it develops an atmosphere of horror. fear, repulsion, dread, all there.

twerking while vaping leads to incestuous raping
so i'm thinking if twerking while vaping leads to incestuous raping how did we get from smoking cigarettes to hoovering around such the ungodly number of guns for any one nation to possess and not come to the forgone conclusion that having no regulations whatsoever would see any other intrusion than a redneck rodeo propped up by an orange haired clown?

I'm not contesting horror can't define it. I'm just saying there's a lot of movies in other genres that are horror as well like Lord of the Rings. There's a lot of Disney movies that should be on the list.

Some hits, some misses. The list understandably reflects the age and viewing history of those which compiled it, as well as those it is aimed at. Personally, while I can see they are all good films, I would left off Drag Me to Hell, Babbadook, Ring2, Jaws (really!?) The Others, Get Out and Kill List at least, bringing in such films as Kwaidan, Repulsion, A Page of Madness, Onibaba, Vampyr, The Devils, Witchfinder General and the original Ringu etc I much prefer Polanski's The Tenant to Rosemary's Baby but can see that's a minority view.

u.s. civilians alone
here in the land of the freak and the home of the slave u.s. civilians alone account for three hundred and ninety three million about forty six percent of the worldwide total of civilian held firearms.
which i'm almost sure accounts for the incredible layers of paranoia laced fear being handed down from generation to generation.
but until we sort through the never ending bottomless piles of freshly generated corpses we may never know for certain why so many christians feel the need to plant hot lead where a heart should be.
imagine if jesus had flown a jet fighter instead of hanging from a tree just how over inflated these excuses would now be.

Like any top list there is no absolute and all subjective. It doesn’t mean anything, except to the author.

I suspect marketing and distribution differences account for the difference in popularity.

Scream (and the general series) is the only one I like on their list.
NOTE: I have not seen all of their list, but a fair amount.
but in general I am not too much of a fan of the horror genre as using IMDb's advanced search it shows only about 26 movies I gave a Thumbs Up tied to the 'Horror' genre and they are...
1)Byzantium (2012-2013) - 6-6.5/10 -)Annihilation (2018)
the rest in no order...
-Scream series -Child's Play series (excluding the 2nd/3rd movies) -Re-Animator (1985) -The Witch (2015) -Dawn of the Dead (2004) -Species/Species II -Predator 2 (1990) -From Beyond (1986) -The Conjuring (2013) -Blade (1998) -Blade: Trinity (2004) -The Dead Zone (1983) -Halloween (2007) (the 1978 movie is overrated) -The Cell (2000) -eXistenZ (1999)
