Saint Rosalia (1130–1166) In her youth, her heart turned from earthly vanities to God. She left her home and took up her abode in a cave, on the walls of which she wrote these words: "I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ." She remained there entirely hidden from the world. She is the Patron Saint for Sicily, Italy.

Interesting. I can relate. The older I get, the more I appreciate the benefits of seclusion.

How does one's love for Jesus translate into living alone in a cave for the rest of your life? What's the point?

How does one's love for Jesus translate into living alone in a cave for the rest of your life? What's the point? It is the penultimate manifestation of Catholic Guilt en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_guiltwhere for fear of giving in to the 'temptations' of actually living( and the fear of sin that involves), one retires to solitary confinement in the belief that it is the ultimate wish of Jesus/God in making this sacrifice when you therefore become MOST Holy. It is a kind of competition.
