They werenโt in a position to draft Sanders. Cowboys picked first and took Aikman. Green Bay went second and took Tony Mandarich. Mandarich was a bust (steroids) but he was thought to be the greatest OL prospect ever. Detroit went third.

Four of the first five picks in the 1989 Draft are in the Hall of Fame. Derrick Thomas went at #4 and Deion Sanders went at #5. And Mandarich was the best prospect. I think he never gave up a sack in his last two seasons at Michigan State. A lot of Cowpoker fans were pissed that they took Troy Aikman and not Mandarich.
