I think I remember reading how surprised George Lucas was over the ridiculous fandom over Bobba Fett, a character who not only was barely in the movies, but barely spoke.

The Shark in Jaws The Xenomorph in Alien Beetlejuice, despite having the movie named after him, is in it for less than 20 minutes.

Hannibal Lecter is in Silence of the Lambs for about 15 minutes total.
I think Darth Vader is in Star Wars for only about the same amount of screen time, maybe less.

The love for Darth Maul confuses me. The guy had like two lines, and they didn't make sense. He's not even a character. Weird.

The love for Darth Maul confuses me. The guy had like two lines, and they didn't make sense. He's not even a character. Weird. The makeup and double lightsaber was cool. And he was able to fight two jedis at once. It also helped that he was one of the few good things in a rather unremarkable movie.

I dunno, it's like getting excited about that Stormtrooper with the glowing arm thingie in Force Awakens. Or Phasma because she has silver armour.

He looks awesome and he has a double-sided light saber. That is why I am a fan. The two characters you mention above aren't nearly as memorable in what they look like imo.
