Actors, actresses and even directors who are famous for a role, a movie, or even a picture from a movie, that would have been totally forgotten, except for movie connesseurs if they hadn't made that part, or been in that right place when a photo was taken, and so on. An example: I came to think of this since I noticed that Max Schreck was born 140 years ago. Max made another 40 movies or so that nearly nobody has heard about, and he continued to act in movies well into the sound age. but the reason we have heard about him is for one role, that of Graf Orlok in Nosferatu 1922 The young Max, who we would never had heard about if it wasn't for one specific role. Other examples are Charles Ogle who acted in around 325 movies, remembered at least among horror fans as the first actor who played Frankenstein's creation, but nothing else. Is it possible that we would have known about Giulietta Masina if it wasn't for La Strada and Nights of Cabiria? Among directors, Gillo Pontecorvo who made The Battle of Algiers, or Marcel Camus who made Black Orpheus, those movies made them famous, but what else did they do? Have any of you any other examples, old or new?

My all time favorite, Maria Falconetti, who was amazing in Carl Dreyer's masterpiece, La Passion de Jeanne D'Arc (1928). It was her last film, preceded by one other feature and a short.

Brigid Bazlen who had the good fortune to appear in 3 major ensemble films: The Honeymoon Machine; King of Kings; How the West Was Won. Her role as Salome in King of Kings remains her most memorable appearance due to her commanding screen presence and emotional weight to her styl-I'm just kidding. She performs a biblical striptease.

I’ll probably get death threats for this, but... Am I wrong? Please tell me I’m wrong.

While well-known in Mexico, Cantinflas was sort of a one-hit wonder in the US and the UK as David Niven's sidekick in Around the World in 80 Days (1956).

Richard Roundtree (Shaft)
Abe Vigoda and James Castellano (The Godfather) Same with the actors who played Luca Brasi and Sollonzo)
Wendell Burton (The Sterile Cuckoo)
Come to think of it, Liza Minelli was as big as you can get for a few years.

James Dean made three movies.
Strother Martin was a wonderful character actor, and one of my favorites. But he's best known for Cool Hand Luke.

James Dean made three movies. Strother Martin was a wonderful character actor, and one of my favorites. But he's best known for Cool Hand Luke. I have recently watched Strother Martin in two Audie Murphy westerns. He steals every scene he is in, even from Audie. The movies are "The Wild And The Innocent" (1959) and "Showdown" (1963). I would say he is best known for "The Wild Bunch" (1969). "Get his boots T.C." Although his "What we have here is failure to communicate" line in "Luke" is truly iconic. Maybe you're right after all.
