This highly acclaimed Netflix Documentary is a must see.
Funny, scary. sad, it casts a dark shadow on the future of blue collar workers .

It's hard to review the plot structure of a documentary since it's not fiction. The makers can't know what will happen once they start filming. However, once you're in the post-production phase, you can choose what footage to use and how to present it. Therefore, I feel confident pointing out the flaws in AMERICAN FACTORY. Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad movie at all, but it starts out as one thing (focusing mainly on cultural differences) and then it becomes another thing (focusing mainly on work conditions). Some scenes go on for too long, even after we've gotten the point (the most noticeable one being the party with the musical performances). I noticed 2 things that helped this movie feel unique: A) most of the onscreen texts that introduce a new person show only the first name; and B) a lot of scenes show Americans and Chinese people speaking to each other in their native languages without showing the interpreter talking, thereby reducing the running time and trusting viewers' ability to read subtitles.
