A typical totally Hollywood cliche movie. Same old Hollywood demon possessed hate formula of "anyone evil enough is an invulnerable demigod." Overplayed, and would be a comedy if one just reads the script. Yet it isn't directed or acted as a comedy. These maniacs are serious about their delusions. Typical Hollywood 2/10. Red Dragon is a total 1/10. Of course the Beavis and Butthead crowd that makes up so much of IMDB will relish this garbage. No offense. Horses for courses.

I find this movie deeply affecting. I feel it's the culmination of Jonathan Demme's crime genre work, retaining all the roving oddballs, idiosyncratic behaviours and radical politics eschewed by a lifetime of investigation. He'd return to such filmmaking later in life with strong results, but this smash hit came out of the blue.
If I watch it late at night, alone, ideally turned up loud, few things in life are better. Jonathan Kaplan, Curtis Hanson and others have similar stories to tell thanks to Demme's mentor Corman. Just my proverbial two cents (I'm from England).
Like Corman, I miss Jonathan Demme, but he's always in my heart (as reflected by my regular writings - no fakery at work here).
