Yes, it is actually quite a sweet themed film, and the coarse humor and material is also handled quite cleverly, even if it had all been done before. 1984 had a few amusing sex romp comedies released and I think Nerds is the best and funniest of them: Police Academy, Bachelor Party, Up The Creek and there is also The Wild Life, which I have yet to see.

Revenge of the Nerds had "heart" and that put it above standard one dimensional sex comedies like Porkys.

It had original set pieces and was a precursor for other sex romps to follow, was full of raunchiness, consistently funny, the characters all had their own unique personalities and if it did have sweetness, it was in the camaraderie of the friendship these guys had with each other and they looked out for each other. There was also the racist attitude subplot that got well rounded out due to son living up to his bigoted father's conditioning and wanting to impress upon him. Porky's humor wasn't so much silly, but born out of situation. Nerds was silly and over the top for the sake of it, but yes, did have its heart in the right place.

It's been a long time since I've seen Porky's. I just remember it not being as funny or well directed and acted as Revenge of the Nerds.

I don't know how they managed to get away with making date rape a joke even in 1984, but I still laughed my ass off at this movie. Damn shame they watered down the sequel to PG13.

Nancy Parsons, Kim Cattrall, Art Hindle and for me, it is a nostalgia buzz as well. The timing is just as good as Nerds. I really don't like Nerds II though, or even Porky's II for that matter, but I didn't mind Porky's Revenge.

Porky's had a few great individual scenes (the infamous shower peeping, the "Lassie" scene), but overall I agree that Nerds was far superior.

Yeah, Nerds II and Porky's II are terrible. As I recall, Porky's Revenge is the best one.
