I don't trust anyone who doesn't like the Beach Boys. Not saying you have to be a big fan or anything, but someone who hates the Beach Boys? Ehhh, I'll go find someone else to talk to, thanks. What gets me is Brian, who went off the deep end and became a recluse, is still alive And by all accounts, he was recently thrilled to work with Janelle Monae due to her musical skills and heavy concept.

I love this quote by him~ Once you've been labeled as a genius, you have to continue it or your name becomes mud. I am a victim of the recording industry. I didn't think I was a genius. I thought I had talent. But I didn't think I was a genius

I love what I heard he said about his lifelong, "no love lost" rival and fellow bassist Paul McCartney ... these two musical men never stopped verbally sparring but you just knew there was a mutual respect behind the fireworks.
"I talked to Paul McCartney over the years ranging from 1967 to 2004. … At the landmine show he did "God Only Knows" with me and I did "Let It Be" with him. And then I called him about four months ago asking him if he could come out and do — sing a song called "A Friend Like You," which I wrote for him, me and my collaborator wrote for him. And he said he'd love to come out. And he came to the studio and that was one of the bigger thrills of my life to tell you the truth, to produce Paul McCartney. And that was a thrill for me. That was a thrill."

Could have made a lot of money making that bet.

@pertolino I guess it's just natural for competitiveness to exist between some musicians, but what I remember is Paul saying God Only Knows was his favorite song of all time and that's pretty high praise

I like them a good bit. I wasn't as big on their early surf anthem hits as many seem to be, save for "Surfer Girl" which is excellent, but their mid 60s to early 70s work was great. I think Sunflower is one of the most underrated albums to come from such a highly rated band.
