I loved the twist at the end, especially with her lecturing Sam about Greek mythology. And during the credits, the snippets which reveal answers to some questions.
And Kelly in court. "YOU SKANKY BITCH!!!"

LOL, Oh Good Grief!
Is that how you seriously felt about it when you first saw the movie ?

For All of the People Here than like the 1998 Movie "WILD THINGS", What was your Reaction to that Movie the very first time that you saw it ?
My first thought was that Neve Campbell is a terrible actress and Denise Richards is quite a good actress, when she is playing a snotty, spoiled bitch. See her also in "Drop Dead Gorgeous". My second thought was that I don't like Kevin Bacon and I do like Matt Dillon. And my third thought was "Hey, look, that's Carrie Snodgrass!" Love her! But I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie.

I first saw it on Skinemax, which was exactly where it belonged. That's what it was, but with better actors and slightly more focus on "plot".

Entertaining trash.
I was 15 when I saw it at the cinema in 1998 and while I definitely liked the sex scene I liked it more for the story, the sleazy characters and the style.
Watching it as an adult the sex scene is extremely tame.

The atmosphere is excellent imo. So yeah, besides it being similarly trashy as a Skinemax movie it is far superior in terms filmmaking.

Basic Instinct, another big studio Skinemax movie, sure.

It is unimpressive compared to Basic Instinct. They are going about it much differently though. Wild Things is more self aware of how trashy it is. Basic Instinct has a sort of pretense to it.

Eh, those end credits of WT are pretty self-congratulatory. BI is a Verhoeven movie, so there's always the question of how much of it is a pisstake.

I see the end credits as being very self aware of how trashy it is. No movie that was asking the audience to take it seriously would add in the unnecessary explanation scenes after the film is over. It feels like he is saying that he knows his movie is nonsense.

I personally think it is obvious when Verhoeven is doing pisstake (I had to look up what that is) except for Black Book, which I can't tell if it is suppose to be serious or not and that is why I hate it. If it is suppose to be a drama than it fails miserably, because I was rolling my eyes and laughing at many parts. If it is meant to be satire than it is in extremely bad taste.

I've seen all.of American movies described as satires, except Hollow Man. Black Book I would doubt.

I wasn't saying that Basic Instinct is meant to be taken 100% seriously, just that it is filmed in a seemingly self-serious way and that is part of why I prefer it to all of his other movies. It is like this strange contradiction within itself. I dislike the OTT cheesy style of stuff like Starship Trooper and Total Recall. RoboCop finds the perfect balance and that is why that is my favorite of his sillier movies. Hollow Man doesn't really come off like satire to me. It's basically just a trashy version of The Invisible Man (1933).

Under-appreciated.
Ppl often say Rushmore or Lost in Translation was Bill Murray's turning point. For me, it was Wild Things.

Except for Elle, my second favorite of his after RoboCop, which I agree is the perfect balance. Wish he directed Watchmen. And that's a pretty apt summary. Best I could reckon is that it's satirizing how being invisible is ultimately a voyeur fantasy. But I think every invisibility story already plays that.

That is part of why I dislike Dead Alive too btw. It is way too silly and in a way that I don't think is much fun. Not to beat an undead horse.
