LOL, Oh Good Grief!
Is that how you seriously felt about it when you first saw the movie ?
Nah it was an OK very 90's thriller.

I loved the twist at the end, especially with her lecturing Sam about Greek mythology. And during the credits, the snippets which reveal answers to some questions.
And Kelly in court. "YOU SKANKY BITCH!!!" LOL, Yeah That was Pretty Good.

We've already covered how this movie has one reason, and only one reason, to exist. And we all know exactly the scene I'm talking about.

I was surprised at the positive reviews from Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert: Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review Wild Things - 3 out of 4 stars"this raunchy, entertaining neo-noir has more twists than a pretzel factory. Gorgeously photographed (by Jeffrey L. Kimball) and well-played, it never takes itself too seriously. Murray is a hoot as an ambulance-chasing shyster." Roger Ebert: "Wild Things" is lurid trash, with a plot so twisted they're still explaining it during the closing titles. It's like a three-way collision between a softcore sex film, a soap opera and a B-grade noir. I liked it. "Movies such as this either entertain or offend audiences; there's no neutral ground. Either you're a connoisseur of melodramatic comic vulgarity, or you're not. You know who you are. I don't want to get any postcards telling me this movie is in bad taste. I'm warning you: It is in bad taste. Bad taste elevated to the level of demented sleaze." www.rogerebert.com/reviews/wild-things-1998

For All of the People Here than like the 1998 Movie "WILD THINGS", What was your Reaction to that Movie the very first time that you saw it ?
My first thought was that Neve Campbell is a terrible actress and Denise Richards is quite a good actress, when she is playing a snotty, spoiled bitch. See her also in "Drop Dead Gorgeous". My second thought was that I don't like Kevin Bacon and I do like Matt Dillon. And my third thought was "Hey, look, that's Carrie Snodgrass!" Love her! But I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie. If you don't mind me asking, Why do you think Neve Campbell is a Terrible Actress ?

Like the way she draws attention to her performance by these annoying, little tendencies she has, like emphasizing a random word for no reason other than because it sounds offbeat. "Don't touch me!" to the lady cop and draws up her fist. Or probably every other line in the movie. She is not convincing at all and it doesn't even feel like she wants to be. She wants to feel herself to be different and clever. She did the same acting job in "Scream", overestimating her character or performance. Because she fails at being truly arrogant means possibly she isn't that insufferable in real life, but I just don't like her acting. At least Denise Richards makes a pretty realistic, entertaining spoiled brat. She delivers her lines in a more straightforward manner. Richards does much better here than Campbell. And, I can't say for sure, but I would think that most straight guys would find DR much more sexually attractive than Campbell, who also seems to go out of her way here to make herself look as blah and offputting as possible.

I have only seen Campbell and Richards in a couple of films. I found neither of them exceptional, although both are\were, very attractive females. Richards does appear less self-aware and she looks like she would have a cool sense of humor, compared to Neve, who does come off a bit trying or strained for effect.

I first saw it on Skinemax, which was exactly where it belonged. That's what it was, but with better actors and slightly more focus on "plot". LOL, Yeah that is definitely a Pretty Interesting Way to look at it.

I should have seen that movie when it was in theaters. Don't know if anyone has mentioned Kevin Bacon's bacon in the scene before his character dies.

Awesome. Wtf happened to Denise Richards? Reality television, that's what happened. As opposed to "trying too hard" actress Neve Campbell who I know was in the Die Hard-knockoff Skyscraper last year.

Much better made too. I love the style of the movie. The atmosphere is excellent imo. So yeah, besides it being similarly trashy as a Skinemax movie it is far superior in terms filmmaking. I don't find the filmmaking particularly impressive myself. Basic Instinct, another big studio Skinemax movie, sure. LOL, I am not sure why but I almost always laugh at that name "Skinemax".
Is CineMax even still on any more and do they still show those kinds of crazy movies ?
The last time that I had and watched anything on that channel was during George W. Bush's 2nd Term in office.

It is impressive compared to a Skinemax movie. It is unimpressive compared to Basic Instinct. They are going about it much differently though. Wild Things is more self aware of how trashy it is. Basic Instinct has a sort of pretense to it. Eh, those end credits of WT are pretty self-congratulatory. BI is a Verhoeven movie, so there's always the question of how much of it is a pisstake. LOL, wow!

Under-appreciated. Ppl often say Rushmore or Lost in Translation was Bill Murray's turning point. For me, it was Wild Things. Oh Yeah, He was definitely Pretty Good in the Movie.

Yes, Cinemax exists as HBO's little brother, but the era of late night soft-core porn movies on either network came to an end. Last year, I think.

I should backtrack. I wasn't saying that Basic Instinct is meant to be taken 100% seriously, just that it is filmed in a seemingly self-serious way and that is part of why I prefer it to all of his other movies. It is like this strange contradiction within itself. I dislike the OTT cheesy style of stuff like Starship Trooper and Total Recall. RoboCop finds the perfect balance and that is why that is my favorite of his sillier movies. Hollow Man doesn't really come off like satire to me. It's basically just a trashy version of The Invisible Man (1933). Gotcha. I do lean toward silly Verhoeven. Except for Elle, my second favorite of his after RoboCop, which I agree is the perfect balance. Wish he directed Watchmen. And that's a pretty apt summary. Best I could reckon is that it's satirizing how being invisible is ultimately a voyeur fantasy. But I think every invisibility story already plays that. "I do lean toward silly Verhoeven. Except for Elle, my second favorite of his after RoboCop" ------------------------------------------ When it comes to Favorite Movies that he has made, My own Number 1 Favorite Paul Verhoeven Movie is "TOTAL RECALL".
That was a Great Movie!

Well when it came out I was in the 8th grade, but when I saw it on DVD I was probably in 9th grade and I only wanted to see it for the threesome scene and I thought it was an awesome sex scene. Although it is actually not that great.
I was 13 years old. So that shouldn't come as a surprise.
