Just watched City Lights for the first time ever. In fact, it's my first Charlie Chaplin movie. I found it to be a delightfully funny and heartwarming comedy. There are many grand moments of inspired slapstick, and the scene with The Tramp getting into all sorts of compromising positions with a statue was a scream. The scenes with The Tramp and the blind woman were touching and bittersweet. And it was interesting how the film ended with such ambiguity.

Quite possibly THEE greatest last shot in film history. Heartbreaking, frightening and brimming with hope.

I've only seen about 20 silents, with 5 or so Chaplins, and City Lights is at least top 3 with Wings and Ben-Hur.

It is very charming and funny. Has one of the most romantic endings ever.

My favorite Chaplin film. I hope you will see more of his films - so many are treasures - but if you only see this one, well, you've seen a real beauty. I'll try to see more of his films. I hear Modern Times is a gem, too.
