I like it, certainly more than I used to, but it’s a far cry from Lubitsch’s best, as it’s often made out to be. I find Garbo’s acting kind of dull for a lot of it, though Melvyn Douglas is good. (While it is fun to imagine William Powell, who was reportedly considered, in the Douglas part, I can’t say he would have made the picture that much better.) Iranoff, Buljanoff, and Kopalski (whom Billy Wilder borrowed from himself much later for One, Two, Three) are funnier than anything else.
