Thought I would continue the trend of goofy ahh sequels. Yeah. What a remarkably low-tech looking image for a movie set hundreds of years in the future on a space ship.

The thing that was covering the character was the nanotech used to bring people back to life, so that sort of counts as a tech thing in the shot I chose. But yeah it would be hard to tell otherwise.

Yeah, I recognize it now, but it's just funny seeing this out of context and how this supposedly high tech apparatus is really just a bed with metal ring with some light bulbs. Kinda like an old 50s sci-fi movie or something but made in the early 2000s.

It's really cheap-looking and I'm not sure if that was the intention; to be a throwback to the old 50s sci-fi flicks by making it look that way for the whole movie since it could also just be a sign of laziness. Although these movies being pretty cheap to begin with I guess it fits.

I don't think it was really intentional, I think it was a case of them trying to stretch a budget farther than was reasonable, and possibly an inexperience director and/or crew... Although, I think they may have leaned into the cheesiness of it all and made it more silly and comedic because of that. In some ways that actually works in the movie because it's ultimately a goofy cheese-fest. It's certainly not great... maybe not even good... but it's got some funny moments.

It's not a good movie, but as another one of these movies with just a different setting, it's perfectly watchable.

A lot of it is dull, but it has David Cronenberg as an evil bureaucrat and the liquid nitrogen face smash is one of the most entertaining kills in the series.

The sculptor guy from Scanners was in it too, briefly I think? He's been in a couple of Cronenberg films. Was it filmed in Canada to cut costs?

Not sure, but filming in Canada certainly wouldn't be out of the ordinary for most budgets. Freddy vs Jason was shot on a much larger budget just a few years later, and they went to Canada for that, and Jason X most likely shot entirely in-doors, so why the hell not? I do know that Cronenberg's effects team did the Jason X makeup work, and that's how Cronenberg came on board... Jim Isaac was the guy who did Cronenberg's prophetic effects, and apparently he asked Cronenberg if he could use their effects team and Cronenberg said it was ok as long as he could be in the movie... and presumably he wanted to be killed by Jason, because of course he would.. and he also re-wrote all of his lines. Todd Farmer, the writer, recently gave some interview and explained how the hell that all happened.
