Yes, Stuart Gordon and his Dolls (1987) is quite a different movie, at least of what he had done at that point, but still I quite enjoyed it, even if the film never seemed to reach such a big crowd as Child's Play or the Puppet Master series.

I didn't get it until I say the eye-less girl, but now your clues make a lot of sense.

I remember stumbling upon the DVD release of Dolls, which came with a similar image to the one I posted, but around the time, what made me buy it was probably the it reminded me of a certain scene from Pan's Labyrinth.

I like fruit cake. But I'll take mine without eyeballs please, I'm vegan. Pretty sure I would remember that film if I had seen it. No idea 🤷♀️

I would probably have to say a big NO, to that eye-pie. As I sure do not like food, that looks back at me. Hm, I know a similar scene, but from which film, I am sure I saw something familiar last summer, could it be from House IV (1992), but I believe that was in fact a pizza slice, with an eye or something. Looked rather nasty. Sadly that film turned out to be the one I enjoyed the least of that franchise, even if the third film The Horror Show were kind of stuck in between, and had nothing to do with the first two films.

Speaking of pies, could it be from the Stephen King film Thinner (1996)? I guess not, since that one were more a bloody pie, and even nastier than the one with the eyeball.

The last one of note that I recall on that theme was Raw from 2016, which I believe was French. I have not seen it yet, but I've heard good things.

Nope, neither one of the House movies nor a Stephen King adaptation... Thinner is one of the lamest and weakest Stephen King movies of its era that people seem to remember fondly for some reason, which is an interesting counterpart to the Night Flier discussion we had yesterday.

Somehow, I always liked Thinner. Maybe because it was one that always kind of stood out, whenever I visited the local VHS rental store, due to the artwork. And when I finally saw it, I ended up having a lot of fun. But of course, have never read the novel, so I am not so sure how far off the original King story it went. Still, I loved seeing Joe Mantegna as a trigger happy mobster boss, the whole "I PUT THE WHITE MAN FROM TOWN CURSE ON YOU!" and who could forget Kari Wuhrer as a sexy gypsy, with a bit of a temper problem.

A bit off topic, but speaking of lame/poor Stephen King movies from the 90s, I would probably say that Trucks (1997) and The Mangler (1995) were two that did not exactly impress me too much, even if the latter one came with some truly nasty scenes and characters. Trucks I guess, was more of a made to tv movie, with lesser talent/stars, and budget, than the far more fun and enjoyable Maximum Ride (1986), which also Stephen King directed.

I remember loving the cover art and the concept, without ever having read the source material, then seeing the movie when I was probably too young and thinking it was fine... then seeing it again when I knew better. It seems to attempt to take it's story seriously but then also offers us Joe Mantegna as a murdering mobster and seeing the movie end with passing around and evil fucking pie... it's soooooooo stupid, and I don't think it's made with the understanding that it's stupid.

Back to the guessing game: it's not a movie from a series and it's made by a very well known director.

Video blocked in my country. Probably for the best. Cake is too dangerous.

Trying not to give too much away, but it's a very effects heavy movie that while made in the age of CGI blends the practical with the digital.
