let's look back at perhaps their biggest blunder. Now, there have been many. This team has been inept ever since they got lucky and got Marino, never giving him a running game and no defense during his prime. But one move in particular probably changed the Dolphins fate the most, as well as NFL History. So let's go back in time (cue time travel montage)
The year is 2006. Early Spring. George W Bush's approval ratings are falling, as well as support for the Iraq War. People, including IMDB board member and complaining Braves fan Undocorkscew ( 'member him?) are abuzz over Crash beating out Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture. a 20 year Old Beardy is a couple of years away from inheriting money from his Grandma and is living at home worry free, getting all sorts of strange on a weekly basis.
And the Miami Dolphins are looking for a new QB. Lucky for them Drew Brees is available. The Saints and Dolphins are interested. But who wants to go to the Saints? Pretty sure they're still underwater at that point. Brees is interested in the Dolphins as well. He's available because of injury and circumstance. He injured his shoulder in the finale of 2005 and needed surgery and the Chargers have Phillip Rivers now. So they let Brees walk. But the shoulder injury is a concern. Dante Cullpepper is also available via trade. After a historic 2004, he struggled and had a knee injury in 2005. The highly paid medical staff of the Dolphins argue against Brees and for Cullpepper. And since these guys are doctors, Nick Saban and the Fins front office listen to them and trade a 2nd rounder for Cullpepper. Brees has no other option but to sign with the Saints. Cullpepper sucks, Brees becomes one of the best ever. Saints are competitive every year, the Dolphins, outside of one season here or there, have sucked since( and before)
It's fun to think about how the fate of the Saints and Dolphins, and the NFL, would have been different if the Dolphins decided to go with Brees.
So next time you roll your eyes when someone says "Pfff, Doctors! What do they know!" just remember, a team of doctors told the Fins to go with Dante Cullpepper over Drew Brees.

Yeah, but knowing the Dolphins, they would have done with Brees why they did with Marino.
