I didn't know it was something which had to be proven. There are plenty of great female comedians.

Ill say this... she's not bad, but not really someone I would go out of my way to see at the end of the day. so if I have to put it in terms of stand up worth seeing and not worth seeing, I would have to go with 'not worth seeing'. but with that said... if I took a guess, she's probably on the better half of female stand up comedy as you can definitely be worse as I did not find it to be a chore to get through that 6 min video but at the same time I can't really see myself watching say 1 hour of her standing up there doing stuff like that. gameboyI think it's because as a general rule females tend not to be nearly as funny as the best guys doing standup. p.s. hell, even in terms of comedy movies that are lead by females about the only one that comes to mind worth mentioning for me is... The Heat (2013).

This isn't exactly revelatory and Nikki Glaser is annoying anyway.

The Heat (2013).[/quote] The general rule has been that male comedians are given more exposure than female comedians. The very first cast member to be hired for Saturday Night Live was Gilda Radner; Lorne Michaels knew she was great. But he had to give the male cast members most of the air time, because their egos couldn't handle giving equal time to the female members of the cast. So much of the early years consisted of Chevy Chase falling over himself and making faces behind people's backs, and John Belushi's tirades. Carol Burnett had one of the funniest, and last, of the classic TV variety shows. When a woman could push her way through the barrier of mediocre male comedians, it was clear that women could hold their own in comedy. Too often they were pushed aside by dog-in-the-manger types such as Bob Hope, whose later comedy "specials" were clumsily edited with footage of laughing audiences and awkward interactions with his co-stars and were just uncomfortable to watch.

I didn't know it was something which had to be proven. There are plenty of great female comedians. Chevy Chase and John Belushi have said women can't be funny. And typically in the past, women imo could be funny, but they brought a different style of humor than men did: Tracy Ullman, Roseanne, Paula Poundstone. But this woman, she brings her a-game. She has the timing and delivery down just as a male pro. And she's pretty, too. Women couldn't be this vulgar in the old days, as it was considered unfeminine and unattractive. Not so much the case anymore.

But she did have a very gritty white trash style which was poignant and well crafted. Hers is a great example of good feminine humor. Also you should watch old SCTV shows. Andrea Martin is hilarious. She would do Slavic women, retarded girls, Edith Prickly was also a great character of hers.

Like the Dean Martin roasts, the humor was funny for people in that time, but it goes over people's heads now. Lisa Lampinelli, Whitney Cummings, Jim Jeffries, and of course Louis CK, they're funny.

I don't think anybody thinks Dean Martin is great comedy. He was Jerry Lewis's straight man. And Lewis was old school Jewish slapstick, like an ancient Adam Sandler. I hate that crap too. But Andrea Martin was from SCTV. That's the same troupe as John Candy. It was pretty bawdy stuff.

Haven't seen that video, but her "my vagina looks like a hastily packed suitcase" bit is one of the funniest similes I've heard from a comic.

marianne48That's fine and all and I get your basic point here. but at the end of the day... I can't be the only person who generally finds males more funny than females especially in more stand up comedy stuff, especially when you start getting into the top tier. NOTE: I know what one finds to be funny can vary quite a bit from person to person, but you get the gist. hell, even putting stand up comedy aside... when it comes to movies I am sure there are far more males that I find funny than female especially looking at more comedy oriented movies. sure, I am sure there is a fair amount of funny things said by females in random movies, but it's generally not in more straight comedy types of movies where there is a higher volume of funny stuff and is more in non-comedy movies with an occasional funny thing said. p.s. but in my mind, regardless of gender, there are not many straight comedies (or thereabouts) worth mentioning in general as the straight comedy types of movies tend to be a dime-a-dozen. but the ones that do stand out for me tend to be almost all male, or at least it's much harder to find comedies where there is no shared thing, like male+female co-lead kind of thing, but more strictly females only and the like for the lead or leads.

Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Bea Arthur, Betty Davis, Goldie Hawn, Gilda Radner, Whoopi Goldberg, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Mellisa McCarthy, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Kate McKinnnon...
All hilarious women. Its chauvinist nonsense to suggest women cant be funny.
