He had the look, persona and presence - the attitude, charisma and the mic skills. That's 99.9% of Sports Entertainment/Pro Wrestling - which is why he's the biggest icon in professional wrestling - the other .1% is to know how to do a headlock. WWF/E tried numerous times to give the ball to somebody else - they failed miserably. I disagree as Roddy Piper who was a far better wrestler and had all the other stuff you mentioned was denied the chance to be world champ as on any day of the week he could have beaten Hogan. Beaten? You seem to be under the impression that Pro Wrestling is real. It's a male soap opera. Roddy Piper looked like my Dad - i.e. an ordinary every day average Joe. Could one argue Piper could have been given the strap for a certain amount of time like the Scott Hall's and Curt Hennigs, Rick Rudes of the world? Sure. Fact is WWF ran with Champs after Hogan - Warrior, Sgt. Slaughter, Savage, Hart, Yoko - why do you think Hogan always came back? Because Hogan = $ and he is Pro Wrestling. Nobody did or ever will do it better. That includes Austin, The Rock, Cena He and Vince made the business and the Pipers of the world should be thankful he ever came along. No other wrestler was the greatest face of All-Time and managed to arguably be the greatest heel of All-Time and his impact stretched for decades as opposed to a half decade span like the Austins and Rocks of the World.

Eddie Gaedel. How the hell can you say Eddies Gaedel? He was hired to do one thing, walk, and he did it. If anything Gaedel is the greatest athlete that ever lived. Given one shot to do what his team wanted him to do, and did it. He succeeded 100%.

Hogan was a manufactured creation of McMahon an entertainer but not much of a wrestler nor an athlete which is why I chose him. The thread here dont forget is about athletes not showmen.

Of course he was a manufactured creation. They all are. They're characters in a story. It's pretty much a scripted traveling Carnival/Circus. What do you think this is 'Fight Club' where you just roll off the street after your 9-5 office job and start throwing fists? You stated he knew 'approximately 0 wrestling moves' - which is not the case. Now I get he's not Bret Hart - but he wasn't Kamala either. The Hulk Hogan hate but some is as irrational as the Tom Brady hate. It's pretty mind boggling how some hate on him stating he held down others for years and played behind the the scenes politics to stay on top. Ummm. That's life in any industry - the strong survive. Sink or swim. He's still swimming to this day (i.e. making appearances and fans still clamor for his presence) when many of his colleagues are either deceased due to their own self destruction or couldn't maintain their relevancy in the business.

In the NHL it'd have to be a goon, and there was no player who contributed less other than fighting than Stu Grimson. In 729 career games his stats were 17G 22A 39P -41. He also played 42 games in the playoffs with 1G 1A 2P -2.
His 0.05 PPG is the lowest among the 100 most penalized players in NHL history. Next worse would be Ken Baumgartner and Mick Vukota at 0.08 PPG.
Among guys who played at least 400 games a case could be made for Colton Orr who is also at 0.05 PPG (slighty lower than Grimson) and a -33.
Among guys who played at least 729 games the next lowest scorers would be Rob Ray at 0.10 PPG (-38) and Jim McKenzie at 0.11 PPG (-86).
Among players that weren't there just to fight and weren't defencemen, the lowest scorers at 0.17 PPG are Chris Thorburn (-40) and Craig Adams (-82).

Now there are two guys whose names I haven’t heard in 20 years. Nicely done!

But to say he knows '0' wrestling moves is just off Bub.

I mean - even black people like Kamala and Rodman had his back after the 'N' word incident if that's what your referring to as being a redneck. Not that I condone the whole incident and everything that was said on that tape. And as far as him being a fraud - as far as his character there's a ton of stories out there - like he was supposed to be in Metallica (according to him), to some of his revisionist history according to the way he saw things behind the curtain.

I can see that stance when one of his catch phrases/slogans was 'Say your prayers, eat your vitamins....' Rumor has it he also dabbled in some other 'stuff' backstage. Not excusing it. Don't condone it. One of those situations where it was prevalent everywhere he turned and he used it to try and stay on top like many - so I get it to an extent - but understand where you're coming from that's it's kind of hypocritical. I've always been fascinated by PED use in sports.
