Right...
I've read the abstract, results, and discussion of the actual archeological report.
It's a metallurgy study, bringing the evolutionary concept of punctuated equilibrium in to how mettalurgy developed.
It does not claim nor provide any evidence for the existence of 'Edom'.
This is bollocks!
Yours, an archaeologist 👍

I'm confident that historians scoffed not at the idea of a state of Edom, which may well have existed, but at the notion that Edomites are descendants of Esau.
For that claim, the archeological evidence is probably nonexistant.

Who are the historians who scoffed at the possibility of Edom being a real site?

Who are the historians who scoffed at the possibility of Edom being a real site? Didn't you know that they all live in the same house and all think the same thoughts? They've even got a big room in the same house called the scoffing parlour?

Edom = Eden?
They sound similar—that’s additional evidence! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shawn
Having personally written/spoken to a number of Egyptologists; archaeologists can be stubborn dolts. I am NOT impressed.

Wasn't that a film by Ridley Scott? No but it already sounds better than Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Who's "they" exactly?
Be specific.
Seriously, I googled Edom, and as far as I can tell, there's little if any debate as to whether the kingdom existed, so again, who exactly is "they"?
I doubt I'll get an answer, so I'll just go ahead and assume you're making sh*t up.

WHICH historians? WHICH skeptics? Be specific. Name some names. Actually, you know what? I'll make it easy for you. Forget names. Just show me evidence that the number of historians who have doubts is even in the double digits. Just show me evidence that there are at least ten historians on the entire planet who doubt Edom was a real kingdom. The bar is really low here. If what you say is true, it should be trivial. There must be what, tens of thousands of historians in the world? Just show me ten of them have doubts.

There are many peoples and places that are mentioned in the Bible that were thought to be myth but have now been proven to exist: Sodom being one of them and Sheba another.

This is hardly surprising taking into account when the Bible was written, and the history and archaeology we have available to us now!!

Every article reporting this finding, from conservative to liberal, points out that many historians and scientists have doubted or dismissed the idea down the years. Google it yourself.

It more a myth that you and Cody™ seem to be perpetrating that people have thought these places myths. Here's a mention of Sheba, discovered by an archaeologist in 1910: Samaria OstracaHere this mentions Edom and was discovered by another archaeologist in 1898: The Rassam Cylinder
Since their discoveries, copies of these have been read by literally millions of Ancient Near East history students all over the world. I admit that I don't know about Sodom, but 2 out of 3 mentions ain't bad eh! How did I know about them? I read just one book by the historian, James B. Pritchard: Ancient Near Eastern Texts Relating to the Old Testament
