Fun and entertaining although safe and familiar. Pretty much this. Plus, Harrison Ford gave his best performance in a long time.

It was really good and entertaining, but I hated that the story was largely a retread of the first Star Wars film. I did like the new characters like Rey and Finn. Daisy Ridley put in a really good performance and she's really expressive with her eyes. However, I did come thinking afterwards that Rey was a "Mary Sue" and didn't quite earn her victory since everything felt handed to her. I remember lots of fans didn't like Kylo Ren, but I liked his character from the start because I found his character to be more complex than the standard Darth Vader-like bad guy.
I was largely impressed with Harrison Ford in this film, and his death scene was well-done. The CGI and the production design was well done and it honored the look of the original trilogy quite well. At the end, I just accepted that the film was more a re-introduction to those who had never seen Star Wars and a set-up film for the sequel, which I couldn't wait two years later to see.

Great fun and impeccably directed (easily JJ's best directed movie) with a lot of good new characters. Once again, Ford was great as Han Solo. Only negative point I had was that it was a bit too safe and familiar, but I didn't (and don't) weigh that as heavy as some other people.

Enjoyed it at the time, though it didn't do anything new. TLJ was so terrible that it effectively ruined TFA, so there's no reason to watch either ever again.

Giddy
I thought it hit all the right notes outside of the new Death Star which they failed to explain as a concept.

Entertaining, exciting and I liked it a lot.
But I have never seen it again and I have no desire to.
The characters are just too bland.

Catman liked it. It was nice to put a face to the actress who provided the voice for Taeko Okajima in the English dub of Only Yesterday.

Out of All of the New Characters, Rey is My Number 1 Favorite.

"Oh, Disney is just going to lazily rehash the old movies with less likable new characters."

Safe.
i.e. X-Wings aren't ground assault ships, & yet they're all over the place because they're some of the most iconic toys. It was TLJ which hilariously spat in the face of TFA, not least turning Luke from stoic super Jedi into a milky gag.

good question... pretty much the exact same reaction from what I got from the phantom menace in the theatre.
At the end of both movies.
