Matthews, Rielly, & Marner rotating assistant captains (NHL only allows 3 lettered players per game) Tavares was probably going to be named captain all along. I think the scales were tipped in his favour and Matthews' off season antics just made the decision unanimous.

Well, for a handful of games this year, but when they’re here it’s in the Coliseum (the Mausoleum) which is the shittiest venue in pro sports. When they move to Belmont, they’ll be on the border of Long Island and Queens. Barclays has a much better surrounding area but it’s not suited to hockey, the flip side is that the Belmont area is something of a wasteland, st least for now. I was there last December when they played the Jets. I mean I don't know that part of the world at all but it didn't seem like the most salubrious of surrounding areas. We had a couple of beers and burger in a bar across the road. Well, the corner its on is nothing more than a big traffic circle. If you walk 2-3 blocks in any direction, you'll encounter any number of great bars, restaurants and cafes. Even if that's not your cup of tea, the area around Belmont has literally nothing in every direction.

I just didn't know where the feck I was really, so didn't want to wander too far. We strolled up one street and it looked dodgy as hell, so just decided to stick close to the stadium. It was also our last night in town and we were kinda wrecked - we were staying in Manhattan for a week and I've been to MSG for games a few times, so wanted to see another stadium/team. I'll be at the Bruins-Rangers at the end of November, never been to Boston before, can't wait for that game.

If you walk about 5 minutes away, you enter Park Slope, which is one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn. How'd you like Manhattan? Boston is terrific, I always enjoy my time up there. Great walking city.

I think the scales were tipped in his favour and Matthews' off season antics just made the decision unanimous. There's symbiotic balance with him captaining the 3 younger guys. Matthews as captain of Tavares might've felt weird. Toronto's captain requires being a type of shock absorber, on & more importantly off ice. Matthews just didn't seem right for that - unless the team were like the Oilers as a flashy dumpster fire. The Leafs though do have real ambition & that can't be toyed with.

Yes. Is there a reason Mets fans must be Islanders fans, and Yankee fans must be Ranger fans? Or am I way off in my preconceptions? As NJ noted, it’s the proximity thing, at least for many of us. I grew up within 10 minutes of the Coliseum, and within 30 of Shea. Just that simple then. I always equate them (mets/Isles) as a little, less rich, brother to the Yankes/Rangers... plus they have orange as team colours.

I can't wait! I haven't been this excited before the season in a LONG time. Even the year after we made it to the Finals and lost to LA, we had just lost Parise and I wasn't sure we'd make it back. Last year I was excited and thought we would take steps and build on the playoff berth from 2018. But injuries decimated us. But this year, I'm legit thinking we could be a serious contender after that amazing off-season. two things can get in the way. Well...one thing. i was gonna say injuries, but any team has a shit load of injuries and it's gonna ruin their season. So that's sort of a cop out analysis. Goaltending. Schneider has really struggled with injuries the last few years. He hasn't been able to return to form. Though last year he played well toward the end. And I really liked how Blackwood looked( And Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood didn't look bad either! HIYOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) So if they can get good goalie play, they'll be in the mix. If Schneider plays like he did in vancouver or his first couple years here, i think this is a Cup contending team. I'm, just really excited about the potential for this season. Haven't had season tickets in a while, since we started sucking. But I got a partial plan this year. Got a new GF to go with who's a legit hockey fan, Got something else really big coming up, Devils are good, all my other teams are good. Shaping up to be a good year! I saw Adam Larsson is on LTIR, man that trade looks better and better for the Devils every day.

I've always heard that Manhattan's teams are the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, & Knicks. The rest go to the other boroughs & burbs. The Mets ownership is the biggest thing keeping them down - small market business model for a large market team.

Orange & Black vs. the Blackhawks today in the 'Global Series - game being played in the Czech Republic (airs at 2pm est) They had a skills competition yesterday and the fans ate it up - Voracek lives only a few miles north of where the game is being played - got a huge ovation. Curious to see Kevin Hayes on the 2nd line who they signed to a big offseason contract - he played under Vigneault with the Rags. Let's go Orange Crush

Great walking city. Was my fourth trip to Manhattan/New York and yeah, have loved every holiday there (we actually got married there 3 years ago). My first trip was 2008 and the most convenient game to get to was Devils-Sharks, so the Devils have been my team since. Before that I liked the game but didn't really support a particular team... You don't get much in the way of hockey in Ireland - I go up to a game in Belfast once or twice a year, and while I always enjoy that, the quality and spectacle just doesn't come close to my NHL experiences.

Travis Konecny puts the Good Guys up front in the 1st - 1-0.
Good to see. TK was the last holdout on the team to get inked and many worried he wouldn't be ready to start the season in proper condition.

pretty infuriating when your team gives up a goal with seconds left in a period
could have went into the 3rd with a 3-1 lead
