Invitation of a Gunfighter directed by Arthur Penn on TV in 1957. Movie version directed by Richard Wilson (Not in the same calibre as Penn) in 1964. Seen the movie version and thought that is was much better than it's rumour of being too psychological. The TV version starred Hugh O'Brien, Anne Bancroft, Gilbert Roland, Pat O'Brien and Ray Collins The movie version starred Yul Brynner, Janice Rule, George Segal, Pat Hingle and Brad Dexter
Wasn't aware of this, teleadm. I didn't see the feature (or don't remember, if I did), but the tv version sounds very interesting, especially with Penn as the director and Bancroft as one of the stars (though actually, I love Janice Rule, too). So Penn and Bancroft knew each other from live television before The Miracle Worker. I'm not surprised. I know that Penn directed the first version of Miracle Worker on Playhouse 90, but that starred Teresa Wright. Oh, I wish we had access to all of those early tv efforts!

The Addams Family - first started out as a cartoon in The New Yorker, then a TV series in the 60's, then several films and now an animated cartoon. When I was a little girl, I used to cut out the cartoons from my Aunt's New Yorker, wish I would have kept them.

SCUM (1979)Originally filmed for the BBC 2 years earlier, but never transmitted due to the violence, Alan Clarke re-made the whole film again. Stars a young Ray Winstone reprising what would have been his debut in the earlier film.
Am not familiar with this, sostie, but I looked at the trailer and it looks very powerful. If I ever get a chance, I'll be sure to watch it. Thanks.
Clarke's short film Elephant (1989) also packs a punch. I can also recommend his TV film The Firm (1989) about football hooliganism which features one of Gary Oldman's best performances.

There are a couple I really enjoyed based on TV shows I never saw - Land Of The Lost, Dark Shadows and 21 Jumps Street. I know the former two had some bad press but really like them, and didn't have the baggage of comparing to the series.
The recent Man From UNCLE (2015) film I thought was real blast.
Probably the best for me is De Palma's The Untouchables.
