Why do people care about box office money? Films are either good or not. Joker was the launch of DC's Black Label iirc a separate banner to release these type of movies that don't fit into the DCEU or "normal" comic landscape, the future of said label rested on the financial success of this movie going forward, so it's success will encourage DC and WB to move forward with such projects, it also re-enforces the overall idea that you can do more with cbm's than we have seen, similar to how the success of Deadpool in 2016 led to Logan and likely even Joker getting the greenlight.
Movies being good or bad only matter to us for when we are watching those films themselves, a movie being a financial success matters towards a franchise, studio, genre, director, actors and so ons future possibilities, it's more a question of outside of the 2 hours you plan to invest in watching a movie, beyond that why the fuck does anyone care if a movie is good or not?
Michael Bay has made POS after POS for the better part of the last 2 decades, but those POS films have grossed billions for the studios, so they keep giving him movies, Patty Jenkins wrote and directed Monster a critically acclaimed movie that won tons of awards including earning the lead an Oscar for best actress, she didn't get to make another movie for 14 years, which she "only" directed, but it made a shit ton of cash, now Jenkins has made a sequel she got to write direct and produce and for way more money also, it's the money that matters most of the time, whether something is good or not is just gravy.

I do wonder how much it’d cost? If it’s a more noirish themed plot, that shouldn’t cost $200M. The cast is noteworthy sure, Pattinson especially, but how much would they be getting paid? I bet the budget gets in at $125-150 million. Like you said, I don’t think actor salaries will be too high. That is a very good thing to me. For the actual budget that sounds about right, but it is Hollywood, who knows what additional costs get included onto this, Hollywood accounting and all.

So who cares if Joker makes $400 million or $900 million? What's the difference? It has absolutely zero bearing on whether Joker is a 3/10 movie or a 9/10 movie. I don't understand why people are tracking the dollars as they rise. It means nothing. The studios are still going to make movies they think will make money. As for your last sentence I don't really know what you mean. I care deeply about the movies I rate as good, because I revisit them and they mean alot to me. Does box office success count towards how you rate a movie out of 10?

And so many kiddie movies gross 1 billion nowadays, that's why we true movie lovers care about it.

Very happy that its made 3/4s of a billion. I didn't love the movie but its pleasing to see this connect with audiences as its such a departure from the typical superhero movies coming out.

This is shows how disappointing and heartbreaking BvS and Justice League was. There is a need/demand for DC properties if done well or hell even average. Those 2 should've been Billion Dollar movies easily. It looks like Joker will do it without China which is fucking amazing. I'm not doing this to be a Debbie Downer. I know I shouldn't bring those two up when on the whole DC movies are trending up. Years later it's still disappointing how those movie did. And while the amount of money a movie makes doesn't effect the quality it does effect the overall brand. Anecdotally you saw DC get kicked in the teeth for years after BvS, because the first time we saw the Holy Trinity on screen couldn't break a billion. The new tact of not connecting them and going with interesting ideas for individual movies seems to be working so keep it up.

Those 2 should've been Billion Dollar movies easily. BvS was a terrific movie, but bad (and stupid) hype surrounding it just killed its box office exponential parable. Said that, it was a big hit all around the world. "Justice League" was a butchered/damaged movie, the Batman scenes were the only ones really good. No Snyder, no quality.

I know it’s been said to death at this point, but holy shit the Box Office Mojo change just sucks. Entire stats are hidden for almost every movie unless you have IMDbPro.
What is the point of this?

It’s apparently become the highest grossing R-rated film worldwide.
