a good movie and I appreciate the different style of comic book inspired adaptation. Phoenix carries the story very well with a convincing portrayal of Arthur Fleck. The cinematography is spectacular and use of visual story telling is refreshing to see in a superhero movie. The shots of him dancing throughout the film is a good example of this. However, as a "Joker" movie Im not totally sold. I just cant envisage this joker being smart enough to be the leader of a criminal posse or having the intelligence to take on Batman and remain a credible threat. Joker in all his animated and movie representations has had a cunning, suave, smart underlayer from his insane appearance. Now Joquains Joker definitely nails down the insane half of the character. But at the end of the day he still is severely mentally underdeveloped and the idea he can be the clown prince of crime is too farfetched. From that angle I can understand why some fans and critics are saying this is a Joker movie in name only and its really about a loner outcast who just happens to be interested in comedy and wears a clown outfit as his daytime job. Overall its a good movie which is connecting with audiences it seems. I would give it 7/10. yeah this is not the real joker. Its about a delusional abused man who resembles the joker, and him becoming the joker is just the film's way of adding to that delusion of grandeur. This is just about some crazy man. He never shot the talk show man, never led a clown riot, never killed any psych ward therapist, it's all in his head obviously. He did kill his former coworker with the gun and the 3 bankers in the subway. They call it Gotham but it's really NYC. Not sure about Thomas Wayne tho. what? What made you think he never did any of those things?

Like the banker deaths were all over the news and different people mentioned them. The other stuff just seemed a little off.

what? What made you think he never did any of those things? I have seen it twice and I do feel it was left deliberately ambiguous as to what was his reality and what was in his head. It ended with him walking down a psych hospital corridor with blood on his soles. Was this sequence really before the riots and his initial incarceration as stated by his social worker, or was it after the riots? What exactly happened? Is the Joker his deluded mind alter ego only? It isn't even clear on the Wayne bloodline. Was what happened with Penny a cover-up and is Arthur related or not to Bruce? I guess I took it all as a reality...and didnt even question it.

I was always suspicious about the girlfriend down the hall. I mean he just barged in the door and madly kissed her and she just took him in?

Bump. According to The Ankler (via The Direct), work on the script for Joker 2 has slowed. Per the report, it's not clear what the issue is, but Phillips, who is also writing the film, has not yet turned in a draft of the sequel. With filming rumored to start as soon as early 2023, the current reported delay may not have much of an impact at all film production. comicbook.com/dc/news/joaquin-phoenixs-joker-sequel-gets-disappointing-update/

According to a new report from Puck News, it seems that Joker 2 has made a lot of progress. An article from Matthew Belloni mentions that Todd Phillips is reportedly "getting pretty close on a Joker sequel."
