Was talking movies with a co-worker and was stuck trying to remember something about Cary Grant. She said there's a website we could look up the info called The Internet Movie Database and I was hooked. Would've been around 1994. Could only use it at work as I didn't have a computer at home until 1997. I joined the message boards March 30th 1999 not long after IMDb made some sort of announcement on it's main page although they existed in a smaller and exclusive 'club' before that.

Like a lot of others I was googling movies in 2005 and found the IMDb. I didn't discover the message boards until a few months later.

For some reason I googled American History X and got IMDb of course and saw the message board. This was 2006 and it was a very lively board with two warring camps, the white supremacist skinheads and the liberals who went there to argue with them. Schwarzwald Magnus was there.

I actually heard about it before using it. I preferred a few other movie sites navigation and news. Can’t remember their url now but the ones I frequented were more for upcoming movies.
Then I started poking around IMDb, saw that there was a comment section for each movie, decided I wanted to discuss things like that with other people and the rest is history.

September or October 2004, I was searching the internet to see what had become of some of the Doctor Who companion actors/actresses, and stumbled across a site which gave me all the information I needed about them (aka IMDb). When I discovered you could look up any movie, any actor/actress AND talk to others about them, I was hooked. Back then, you didn't need an account to read entire boards and threads, and then in early 2005 they changed that, so I got an account. The rest is history.

I first stumbled across it while looking for some movie info back in 1999. I discovered the message boards the next year and quickly became a regular on the "I Need to Know" board. Finally I had a place to use a lot of that movie/TV trivia bouncing around inside my head.

At one point, I knew many people who tried to make it in the Canadian movie industry, mostly as directors and writers. Very few of them still work in the business today (that's another story) but talking with them I got to know the site.
While I used the site for information for a long time and still do, I wasn't active on the forums until much later though.
