Is that a good thing or a bad thing? And since when has Jones shown he he knows anything about talent evaluation?

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? And since when has Jones shown he he knows anything about talent evaluation? I think Jones is a decent GM. After Dave Campo got canned, and he hired Parcells, he's been a lot better. Basically since Parcells left, other than two seasons where Romo was hurt they were in contention for a playoff berth every year. And currently, as the GM, he's built one of the more talented teams in the league. Specific example? Parcells wanted to draft Marcus Spears at 13 in that draft, whatever year it was. Cowboys also had the 20 pick. Jones overruled him and they drafted Demarcus Ware. Ware turned out to be a HOF caliber player. And they also got Spears at 20, who was not bad, but no Ware. And Ware would not have been available at 20. So thanks to Jerry, we got them both. if not for him we'd have missed out on one of the better defensive players the Cowboys ever had. He's the reason we've had this great O Line for a decade, cause he made building and maintaining a solid line a top priority. I think Jerry gets a bad rap as a GM. It used to be deserved, but it isn't anymore

Or how’d Randy Gregory work out?

It used to be deserved, but it isn't anymore Fair enough, but for each DeMarcus Ware story isn’t there also a story of having to be convinced not to draft Johnny Manziel? Or how’d Randy Gregory work out? I don't know the details of the Manziel thing. I heard there were rumors the Cowboys wanted to draft him. I was hoping that wasn't the case. At the end of the day he made the right decision and didn't draft him. As far as Gregory, I don't have a problem with that. Sometimes you gotta take a chance on really talented players. Gregory was a top 5-10 talent. All he had on him was a failed pot test. So with a very late 2nd round pick the Cowboys took a chance. Has it worked out great? No. But when he played last year he was pretty good. There's always gonna be talented players in the draft with baggage. And there's no exact science to predict how it will turn out. You draft a player and he works out and you're a genius, and if he doesn't you're a bad GM. But that isn't fair. Randy Moss had way more baggage than Gregory. Cowboys passed on him. So I have no issue with taking those chances on talented players from time to time Hell, that same draft where we got Gregory, La'el Collins was a guy who was a top 10-15 prospect but went undrafted because of a murder investigation where he was being interviewed. Cowboys signed him, and he's been a solid part of one of the best lines in football. So even if you think taking a chance and drafting Gregory is some horrible move that could have been avoided, i thinking getting a top 15 prospect undrafted makes up for that Bottom line, Jones is a good GM. Since the Campo debacle and those years, he's become much more amenable and will listen to those he puts around him. He has put out a talented roster pretty much every single year and currently has one of the better defenses and offenses line in the game, as well as franchise players at RB, QB, and a what I thought was a very solid receiver corp before Michael Gallup went down.
