And Jon Bernthal was born for that role.

I don't think he would have been a good Frank Castle.

What's wrong with Tom Hardy? Nothing, I think he's a great actor. I still don't think he would be a good Frank Castle.

Hardy would've knocked it out of the park, but Bernthal was a Grand Slam. It's kind of a win-win situation no matter who Marvel got.

Ray Stephenson or Josh Brolin would have nailed it. Bernthal can act his ass off but, he's too puny.

Nothing wrong about him, but he just wouldn't make a great Punisher.

I don't know, Bernthal did such a good job his height wasn't a problem for me as a long time fan.

I don't know, Bernthal did such a good job his height wasn't a problem for me as a long time fan. He did do a good job. He did a fantastic job actually but, when you see him wielding heavy ordinance he just doesn't sell it (for me). He looks like somebody's angry little brother on a columbine-style killing spree. It's all of those forced grimaces. He doesn't look like Frank Castle; stone-cold soldier of the apocalypse. He looks like an angry nerd with a gun. Frank is always focused, collected and surgical. Someone has to make a straight tactical Punisher film. No talking, no emoting just Frank, the bad guys, guns and total chaos. SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave

SaveSavereally to light a voice? Anyway my one complaint with Bernthal is his size? He only looks about 5'8 or 5'9 and looks too thin. I saw him in the accountant and Next to Affleck he looks small in Size.

SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveRay Stephenson already made a Punisher movie that was all about the violence, It was called " Punisher: War Zone", and it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked!!!!!See, Maybe we see Frank Castle differently. Sure I want a scary Punisher that would destroy an Irish mob bar, hung people in meat hooks, and kill 13 people in a prison hall with a wooden stick and stuff... and Bernthal delivered that. But one of the greatest aspects of Frank castle from the comics was his mental stability or lack there of, his pain, his grief, his THIRST for vengeance. And you see this in the 616 Universe with the early works of Frank miller and even in the 90s alternate story "The Punisher kills the Marvel Universe". Garret Ennis did make him a bit more of a killer, tho... I'll give you that. But Ennis' version doesn't translate well to the screen because Frank castle is NOT The Terminator, he is THE PUNISHER. And like I said, they already tried The Terminator route once, and it sucked balls.

I see Frank as a SOCOM-level operator who is deeply entrenched in a one man war on crime. His pain and grief are always there but, he weaponizes that pain and turns it against the enemy. What Punisher fans are really scared to acknowledge is that the Punisher, as a hero archetype, is one dimensional. I love him as a character but, his stories come from his adversaries and the hellish extremes they will go through to further their criminal enterprises while simultaneously trying to eliminate him. The Terminator approach, as you call it, would only be successful with an extraordinary villain and none of the previous films have been able to deliver on this. Frank's methodologically and deep attention to trade-craft was also missing from previous installments. That aspect of it is a part of his inner monologue (narration). The setup for his takedowns can be gripping in and of themselves because he's a a brilliant strategist. I get that Bernthal is trying to humanize Frank and make him assessable to general audiences, but, for this girl, when I see Frank Castle shed tears in front of another human being - I WORRY. SaveSaveSaveSaveOkay, I get what you're saying and I can too respectfully disagree with you. I think as Punisher fans we have what we like in the CB pages and then some. And he might be a one note character but I do like Miller's version better which is what the Netflix version heavily relies on. We're getting Jigsaw in the new series (or at least his origins) and tho the MCU has been criticized (unfairly IMO) for its lack of good villains I believe that the Netflix villains have been astounding (Iron Fist excluded). And I know that you meant the villains in the three Punisher movies and how they all sucked and I agree with you, wholeheartedly. I do hope Netflix's The Punisher has something than all of us can enjoy. And if one thing you have to admit is that Marvel Studios is at least trying to please their fans by bringing him in after we asked them to. You see, originally the antagonists in S2 were going to be The Hand and Bullseye, but thanks to all of us asking for hi they gave us Frank Castle. Can he be improved? Of course. Could Tom hardy made it better? Nope! I am not a fan of Hardy and I can't mentally picture him as The Punisher or Bond for that matter.
