Do schools still offer typing? I thought it wasn't as necessary since every computer is a word processor now.

Yes. And, it was on actual typewriters.
The next school year, the system was upgraded to computers.
Funny thing about typing.
Back when our family first got a PC, I'm clacking away on the keyboard - typing something.
I can hear my mother from the other room say, "Showoff."
I reply, "Hey....don't think this happened overnight."

They did in my high school and I am grateful for that. It also made life so much easier once I started going in chatrooms and forums or just to type stuff out in the computer

I AM a "boy", and am SO glad I did take it back in Junior High (mid 1970's) because that, along with my driving skills (Driver's Ed, a few years later) are just about the only two things (aside from readin', writin', and 'rithmetic!) from school that I still use to this day (not, of course, that I'm still typing papers, just that I haven't had to sit hunched over my computer keyboard these last three decades or so, "hunting and pecking").... SAVE FERRIS The class I took, some people just half assed it and didn't apply themselves so they never learned how to do it. But once you learn it you don't forget how to type. If I did the whole two finger johnny thing, my posts would be very short. And forget about doing pm's

in High school yes BUT the students on the Academic track (and not the Commercial Track) were not allowed to take Typing (or Stenography) even as electives.
I still do a fast hunt and peck with LOTS and LOTS of edits.

Hmmm.....seems if some silly school actually tried to pull crap like that today, SOMEBODY would sue the pants off them, claiming they are denying them the right to a chosen education......or something like that.... msdemosThe school administrator had some weird ideas and was able to push things through that made no sense. The Academic students usually helped teachers in offices etc and got some sort of credit for it BUT the admin said that before getting onto the ARISTA honor society they had to also do "cafeteria duty" which consisted of guarding the doors so that smokers could not escape the building. Parent got into the situation and when asked "WHY ?" he said .. "to teach them humility! " Bizarre !
