newer films. Which is... Ok first off. I.m saying older which is eighties films and from then to the mid nineties films.
What I am saying is that older films from that time often featured this thing that today we don.t usually have is...
Stories and films that had cops in their films. In other words we do not usually have that now. Like at all.
Just to clear this up here is what he have had. These films.. Die hard. To live and die in L.a. 48 hours. The terminator one and two. Heat. Robocop one and two. Child.s Play. Donnie Brasco. True Romance. Goodfellas. Mad dog and Glory. Predator 2. And. Probably numerous examples that I cannot think of right now...And there are some examples from recent years but fewer and farther in between. Like The Departed I guess. And Batman.
I am saying from the mid nineties we have.t had much more of films that have had cops in the films.
Not sure what the reason is. But have you noticed that as well?

First of all there are plenty of newer films that have cops in supporting roles, so The Terminator is a bad example imo. Goofellas is an even worse example. Just last year had White Boy Rick which focuses on the criminals with the cops in supporting roles and Blackkklansman which focuses mostly on the cops. In the last few years we also had Black Mass, Wind River and Hell or High Water which are 3 popular movies that focus on cops pursuing criminals.
In general you are right though, especially concerning action movies where the main character is a cop. I actually didn't notice this until you pointed it out.
I think the superhero genre has a lot to do with this, though The Dark Knight trilogy focuses on the cops quite a bit.

It's the notoriety that's different. In the 80s a cop-starring action movie was mass marketed--now it seems not so much. Might be because superheroes have taken over that, but there's less media hoopla about films that are not franchise ones. It's unlikely we will see a new cop movie which gets mass media attention since they only focus on supernatural things now. I wonder if the trend goes back to the 50s. Seems to me there weren't much modern cop-focused movies in the 1950s and 60s that got a lot of attention until the later half. Charlton Heston didn't play cops often did he? Two Minute Warning...
Private detectives were more popular than focusing on cops I think until Dirty Harry.
