I liked it better than I thought. Hated the ending though. Also, The ending I thought was about as close to a punch right in the stomach as the ending to "THE MIST" was.
She basically went through all of that Madness and Horror (and she also killed an innocent man) for nothing!

I think he gave the Best Performance in the entire Movie.
What I myself can't believe is the fact that Sasha Grey is actually in the Movie and also the fact that she actually gives an Okay Performance in it.

Definitely, esp for a former porn actress.

-Jeffrey Combs reaches ultimate Robert Englund status here. He's hamming it up and loving every minute of it. Loved him having the deadpan butler to bounce off of from time to time.
-Robb Wells (the card player), who I know from "Trailer Park Boys" as Ricky, in a non-comedic role (though he managed to sneak in some laughs). And he crushed it. Wish he was in more stuff.
-Expected more gratuitous gore. Was happily surprised at how little was shown. I like gore (because I like practical effects and how they are made), but like garlic, a little is great, too much is too much. This one handled some pretty gruesome things in good taste. Using sound and reaction shots to inspire the viewer to fill in the blanks with their mind. My kind of modern horror.
-I thought the cop subplot was kind of shoehorned in. The main story had enough meat, the cop came off like a plot convenience as a means to disarm the guards at the compound. Minor gripe.
-Ending was well done, but I saw it coming a mile away...which is fine, seeing as this is a variance on a story that has been told for thousands of years in all parts of the world (be careful what you wish for).
I really like this movie. It is clearly working on a lower (than Hollywood) budget, and using story-telling and craftsmanship to get the job done. It looks great. The cast is on point. No strobe-light jump scares. I'd put this up on the ranks of something like "Cube" for how to effectively do horror without all the tropes found in every horror DVD in your nearest RedBox. There is a lot of heart in this movie. It reminds me of something like "Tremors" in that regard. You can poke holes in the premise all day, but when you sit back and watch, it's great entertainment.
Also another nod to Jeffrey Combs. I'm a big "Re-Animator" fan. Nice to see him embracing the horror fandom. Like Tony Todd or Robert Englund (both are incredible actors outside of being supernatural killers), he's taking it just seriously enough, while giving a wink to the old school fans. I love it when you can tell the actor is a fan of the genre.

For most of the movie I was obsessed with figuring out who the blonde guy was. I knew I knew him but couldn't put my finger on it. Finally I'm like "ah, that's The Penguin". Nothing much else in the movie interested me though.
