Olivier had more interesting range-roles.
He was Zeus dammit!
I think Guinness regretted Star Wars because it was pretty much the only crowd-pleaser movie he did. A recent biography on Peter Cushing pointed out that while there were other British actors who were more famous in his time, Cushing's popularity has risen over time while others have faded, because he did audience-favorite films, not the stuffy drawing room or message films.
I think Trevor Howard resisted fantasy films for a long time and then by the 70s was popping up in low-budget sleazy horror like CRAZE. But he had a good part in Superman. "You would be banished to endless imprisonment in the Phantom Zone, the eternal void which you yourself discovered."

Olivier had more interesting range-roles. Guinness played nine different characters in one movie alone. He was almost a proto-Oldman in his chameleon style.

Marcus Licinius Crassus.
Crassus: "Are you not aware of Rome's most ancient law? That no general may enter the city at the head of his armed legions?"
Glabrus: "Sulla did."
Crassus: "Sulla? To the infamy of his name! To the utter damnation of his line."

Olivier although I haven't seen enough of Guiness's work to be able to judge his acting fairly.

couldn't say..
Olivier's intensity on film is pretty hard to compete with, although Guinness was a very versatile character actor in comedy and drama.
Olivier.. rebecca (1940) wuthering heights (1939) richard lll (1955-uk) the entertainer (1960-uk)
Guinness.. the bridge on the river kwai (1957) tunes of glory (1960-uk) the horse's mouth (1958-uk)
