The skeleton fight really is one of the greatest motion picture sequences ever. Up with Kong on the Empire State Building. I read that he started to get giggles half way into it and started laughing and bumped into a table and almost ruined a shot.
I think it was a lucky accident that it was shot in daytime because he wanted it done at night and I think it would have been less memorable--having a fight on a high cliff in the sun with the ocean behind--it's just a great visual.
I regret I missed a chance to meet Harryhausen (I did get a letter from him) when he came by in the early 2000s on a book tour. Didn't know about it for a few years but I probably would have been intimidated.

Anytime I see Harryhausen's name in the credits of a DVD, I buy it. His stuff is as good as it gets.
