So I saw this on youtube - warning, there may be some spoilers discussed, so I'll condense it and put spoiler tags around the appropriate parts. I found at least one article, but this may or may not be substantiated just yet, but there's at least talk (possibly confirmed) that by around Thanksgiving production on Days will take a 4 month (or possibly longer) hiatus from filming, in order to allow the airing episodes to catch up to where they're at in production; and allow the writers to better course correct and respond to the fans when they're doing something right or when they're doing something wrong. An example of this I guess was a positive response to Gabi and Stefan; a fact that was no realized by the writers until they had already written and filmed the character of Stefan being killed off. This could be very good, especially if the show ends up being only even 2 months out. After years of this crap, it's kind of overdue. Something this youtuber at least hinted at, which I don't know whether it's confirmed or not, is that Stefan may end up being brought back from the dead

Finally! This is great news for Days. I really am invested in the show again. Ron and company seem to be doing really good things with the show with such a limited budget. The only thing I would like to see now is some better sets. The Bistro is a great start. Also, I loved the interaction between Jennifer and Kate the other day. It was so out of the blue but a great scene between them. I hope that Kate’s character is becoming more likable again. She is a great actress and a strong female character.

This aspect is good, but I hear this is not actually why they're doing this -- it's just a bonus. The real reason is that they haven't been renewed yet, and they're coming up on the point where they'd be filming beyond when the show's current contract ends so they need to stop until NBC decides to renew Days (which is far from a lock, especially with all the Sony legal drama) so they don't go past it. The answer on renewal will likely come during the hiatus, at which point they'll know if they just keep going or have about a month to wrap up the show entirely.

Also kind of surprising that hadn't come up before now; seeing how far in advance they've been shooting for years now and their renewal always seems to come down to the wire. I had always wondered how that would work in the event the show wasn't renewed. Here's hoping they won't have to find out just yet.

In that Video he said they’ve been renewed through 2020.
Anyway I think this will help.
Remember when they had that terrible Belle and were able to replace her quite quickly???

She was out before her episodes started airing. How bad do you have to be for the show runners at Days to notice? Through what point in 2020 is it renewed though? Because the renewal announcement always seems to come around early spring-ish, if memory serves, but it's not super clear when the contract would actually end if it hadn't been renewed.

The show is renewed until next season which would be in September of next year. But I doubt that the show will get cancelled. It’s stabilized in the ratings and is very close to General Hospital in the ratings. Plus, none of the daytime talk shows other than Ellen seem to attract viewers. So, keeping Days makes sense for NBC. Plus, with the Days app and the short series with Chad and Abigail, I think it shows that NBC has faith in it.
