An open invitation for all to participate in a movie activity inspired by the classic Cole Porter tune "You're the Top" using film stuff instead. Rules are fluid -- 'You're" can be substituted (he's, it's, she's, they're, etc.). Keep it clean -- this is a family thread. As much or as little as you want to deal. Some examples:
***************************************************************************************************************
1) Short Form:
You're the top, you're a Widmark giggle You're the top, you're a Gilda wiggle ________________________________________________
2) Longer Version:
He's the top, Cruise as Dustin's brother They're the top, Norman and his mother Leslie Howard's fop becomes the Pimpernel Homers by Roy Hobbs Bogie's 'Fred Dobbs' Emma as 'Belle' _______________________________________________
3) The Full Monty:
He's the top, he's a Hut called Jabba She's the top, Meryl wearing Prada Dreyfuss having to play Richard Three as gay BEST YEARS vets returning Chicago burning Black Rock's bad day
It's the top, Shakespeare done by Larry He's the top, Eastwood's 'Dirty Harry' It's the troubles Spence has as Liz Taylor's Pop But if Matt's seem at the bottom Yours won't flop
***********************************************************************
Come aboard, be creative, have fun

They're the top: Fred and Ginger tapping She won't stop: there's Miss Crawford slapping Or she'll hurl a drink and create a stink; she's mean Nothing like that darling, the Ann named Harding Who's so serene
He's a cop: Steve McQueen's Frank Bullitt Hoods to pop? There's the trigger...pull it Chaney's fine at noon, but he'll howl by moon, then "Chop!" That's your jugular just severed And you'll drop
City Lights reveals Chaplin snoozing Days and nights, Ray Milland is boozing Wyman cries, and tries to see that he dries out Will he write that novel, forget the bottle And do without?
She's a star: Esther's renamed 'Vicki' At the bar, you'll find Nora's Nicky Between solving crimes, having high old times by far Nailing killers...shaking cocktails... He's a star
It's a wrap: Boris Karloff's mummy Broderick's trapped; Holliday's no dummy Cody's last hurrah was "Made it, Ma," then BOOM Kate's debut's a dilly: "The callalilies... ...Are in bloom"
With a mop you'll find Kelly dancing At the shop, Sullavan's romancing When at last she learns that ol' Jimmy's her "Dear Friend" Then a tender kiss...the fadeout... That's the end
Nice of Cole Porter to write all those "list" songs: this one, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Let's Do It, Anything Goes, Always True To You In My Fashion, My Heart Belongs To Daddy, etc...all so well suited to a Garth Activity.

Only time will tell whether there's more parading my serenading, or if that's de-limit. I'd hate to be all Portered out, so I'll see if I can Cole-lect more ideas.

Okay, one more try:
Like a prop, Bette waves that "butt" 'round Which she'll swap to be England's queen crowned Or she'll play some twins, cop some Oscar wins (and clout) For the drunken hellion and belle's rebellion You've seen, no doubt
As "de trop," Holm withdraws discreetly No eavesdrop when, so nice and sweetly, Bill and Margo clinch and it seems a cinch it's best To be tactful and retract, well, That's Celeste
Had the knacks: Hepburns Kate and Audrey One in slacks; one in haute Givenchy From the finest schools, Kate broke all the rules; no cares Audrey's nun or mistress, she's Greg Peck's princess She's Fred Astaire's!
They were tough: Miss Bacall and Stanwyck Took no guff; with a crack they were quick They could hold their own with any he-man known by name If you want it, they could flaunt it These two dames
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I had this other one going, but it seemed more cynical than celebratory, so I abandoned it after this much:
It's a flop: Warren Beatty's Ishtar; Went "ker-plop," Gigli and its big star And The Alamo...you can never know nor tell When they'll say "No thanks" and your picture tanks -- Box Office Hell
Once, at Fox, they had Hello Dolly And a pox went on "Zanuck's folly" That's the one with Liz, nearly sank the biz, then ZAP! Star Wars rocks! It put the Fox Back on the map
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
And that's all he wrote!
