Much older men marrying young women is hardly a new trend. In fact, it's probably one of the oldest trends going.

Is it really a recent trend though?

I think its pretty obvious that fame and especially money attract many pretty young women. And pretty, perky girls attract old(er) men.
I think when a 60 year old man marries a 20 year old girl thats just kinda ridiculous.
However, I remember people were talking bad about Michael Douglas and Catherone Zeta Jones. But at the time Catherine was in her thirties, more than old enough to make an informed decision about who she wanted to marry, and she already had her own money and fame.
Same with Catherine McPhee. She's 35 and already established on her own. That's different.

My thoughts on this subject are the same as on gay marriage, viz. other people's marriages are none of my #&%!*$ business. Or yours. You (and I) do not have the privilege of an opinion.
No one knows what goes on behind closed doors, to quote a lyric.

Catman bucked the trend by marrying an older woman.

Its the natural order of things. Rich successful alpha men will attract young fertile attractive women. You can pass it off as gold digging but the psychology is way beyond that. Its how weve evolved.

No one knows what goes on behind closed doors, to quote a lyric. Is it not a different dynamic though, when there is a huge age gap, irrelevant of the gender of the couple? Is just sex itself is a different matter, when marriage is not on the cards? Life and experience speak volumes. What would a person in their 60's have much in common with a person in their 20's for a lifelong partnership. This is what marriage technically is for, age will cut it short.

I think this trend has been going on for thousands of years.
