Ha! As for Pinewood, no, I haven't called them, but I'm a bit skeptical that they'll know or start searching, unfortunately.

You'll never know unless you try. They might put you on to a contact who may know.

You were right to be sceptical. I e-mailed Pinewood, and they don't respond to such questions as it's "still a busy working studio". However it was worth a shot for all it cost...nothing.
At least we know that's another place not to look.
Our quest seems to be on a par with finding the end of the rainbow or the Holy Grail.
--------------
I'd never actually seen "Anything Goes" (the musical) until last night. The 1956 film adaptation is currently on Youtube. Perhaps it's better on stage as many numbers were cut. Apart from the main well-known numbers and the delicious Mitzi Gaynor I wasn't impressed at all with the movie. It was only the songs which gave a little life to it. The plot was nothing to be excited about. The apparent moving of Blow Gabriel Blow to the closing scenes didn't make any sense at all, and kinda left an abrupt really unfinished ending. Very disappointed.

<customersupport@chandos.net> May 8 to me This is an automated email, please do not reply to this address. (Redacted), A customer support staff member has replied to your support request, #CHT001792 with the following response: Dear (Redacted), Thanks for your above query. I have written to our design team, in New Zealand, who are 'film buffs' and might have ideas, but I do not expect they will know the answer to your question.. The website IMDF has a pretty exhaustive discussion about the matter: www.imdforums.com/threads/singer-in-sleuth-unsolvable-mystery.523/If the singer is not credited in the film titles -- and the songs were not included in the released soundtrack -- there must be copyright issues involved. I cannot think how anyone except someone who worked on the film could reveal the singer's identity at this point. It is the best I can offer for the moment, and must say I am a little surpsied that the singer has not been publically identified so long after the event. With best wishes, Finn.

Many, many thanks for all your hard work, carlcarlson1 . And my sincere apologies for not responding sooner; I've been away for a long while. (Oh, and how in heaven's name did you get a response from Warner's? I tried and tried, to no avail!) With Finn, I am stupefied that the singer has not been identified by this point. I did try the website Steven Wright suggested, also to no avail. (The IMDf link was started by yours truly, of course.) Again, my greatest thanks for all you've done.

tarathian123 , BATouttaheck , carlcarlson1 , Carl LaFong , paislene , mattjoes , et al. So I finally find another person who can help, a Cole Porter expert, specialist, and music detective named Judy Brown, and then--naturally--I find the worst news I could receive: The woman murdered her brother-in-law in 2003 and was sent to prison for 20 years! Exactly the luck I would have with this everliving mystery.

Carl LaFong said : Can't you write to her in prison?! OR since she went up the river in 2007 for 20 years, you could wait another Ten 'til she gets out OR she may get early release for good behavior. Salzmank Not really making light of the poor woman's plight or yours with this ever loving puzzle. (well, maybe a little light.

I found another singer named Michael Feinstein, whose voice is similar to the Sleuth singer's. I'm almost certain that he's not the singer, but he's an archivist for the Great American Songbook, and I'll try to write him.
Why don't I ever just give up on this one? Can't, by this point, it seems.

SalzmankTHE Michael Feinstein ? This Michael Feinstein ? Was introduced to Ira Gershwin through Oscar Levant's widow, June. Michael revered Ira and George Gershwin, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of the pair's work. Michael recounted many stories he knew about the two during his first meeting with Ira, and he was so impressed with the young man that he made him his assistant for 6 years.Listened to him doing an extended interview on Public Radio. Fascinating guy. He may just be your obi-wan ("you are my last hope, obi-wan" hologram) as far as the Sleuth info. If he doesn't know.... well ....

He may well be able to figure it out, but my problem is being able to talk with him, especially as I'd have to go through his agent.

Salzmank You could print out the whole Sleuth Search Saga which details all that has been looked into and eliminated. It sounds like he loves a good music search.
also from that link : Has a talent for finding "lost," older songs, and breathing new life into them, thereby preserving great music for future generations. If a Bat had fingers, mine would be crossed !
EDIT As for him actually doing the singing: Michael born 1956 Sleuth 1972 so he would have been 16, if my math is correct. Likelihood of him singing in Sleuth ?

Not impossible, but small enough to rule him out. He's also singing rhotically in the one clip I found of him singing "Anything Goes" (which the Sleuth singer doesn't), but of course a person could change it one way or the other. I'll reach out to the agent--will be probably receive a "Mr. Feinstein does not accept these kinds of requests" e-mail, but it's worth a shot!
