Do you find this movie any better today compared to the shitty ass trailer we have for the 2nd remake? I think I gave the remake TOO MUCH shit for not being enough like the original. The more I watch it the more I appreciate it for what it’s trying to be. I don’t think this movie was meant to be taken seriously. I don’t know why but Billy making his mom’s flesh into Christmas cookies I found unintentionally hilarious.
I don’t think this will ever become a classic like the original is, but I do think it’s a very fun movie and I love owning it next to my Shout Factory Blu-ray of the original. At least this one was TRYING to be Black Christmas unlike the new remake which just seemed to take the name. 7/10

I mean it tries to do something different so I give it that, but all the while disrespecting what the original was trying to do. Having Billy a backstory takes away the mystery of him, and if it’s done right I’ll buy it. However it just went way too far out with the origin.
The next one looks crap too, so I don’t know.

I do feel the movie would have been better as it’s own thing and just say they were inspired by Black Christmas. I did actually notice the new trailer does seem to keep the phone calls, but they aren’t vulgar and I think they may have had someone wrapped up in plastic.

While I don’t care much for it giving Billy a backstory & the twist in the film’s climax. The cast is decent, there are some brutal moments & the Christmas atmosphere pops with some nice visuals. No way is it perfect, but I don’t mind it.

The original is free to watch on Prime so I was excited to watch it. It starts out really promising, but it's pretty boring, and why isn't there any titties? And it's so friggin long too. I mean, nothing really happens. There's like 3 kills total. Wtf?

The new one looks pretty bad, but while the '06 remake gets some points for trying to bring a new style to the proceedings, it's absolutely terrible in its execution. It's writing is stupid, it has bland characters, the style is obnoxious and annoying and the one or two memorably outlandish moments stick with you for being laughable more than effective in any real way.
It's terrible.

As bad as I think the movie is, it actually does have a good cast, and some of those actors were unknown to me at the time. That definitely makes it feel like a higher level production that anything else about it. Outside of some professional actors I really have nothing nice to say about it.

I watched the 2006 movie for the first time tonight. It's a better horror movie than the original in my opinion. It's no masterpiece, but I'm comfortable giving it a high 6, maaaaybe a low 7.

I definitely prefer this and the original version over the 2019 version. I've got 1:30 tickets for later today. I will have watched all three movies for the first time in the same week. 😀 Edit: Actually, I will have watched them all, for the first time, in the span of three days. 😊

How was this film for you? I enjoyed it. It's Black Christmas in name only. There are very few similarities to the original. It's more like there are nods to the original. I like the Blumhouse formula: Pretty girls + high production value + inoffensive fun horror elements = a pretty good watch.

So, over the holidays I watched the original, the 2006 remake and the 2019 remake. After seeing the original for the second time after many years, I loved it even more. Such foreboding and actual terror, we hardly see the likes anymore. The 2006 version, which I absolutely hated at the time for even staining the original, I have come to appreciate. It's goofy and gory fun and I now have no idea why I didn't enjoy it at the time. The 2019 version was not Christmasy or scary or even anything like the other two. A remake in name only and seemed more like The Skulls (2000) than either Black Christmas (1974) or Black Christmas (2006). It makes Black Christmas (2006) seem like Black Christmas (1974) now in comparison...well, sorta. My favorite thing about the 2019 version, aside from Imogene Poots actually giving good a performance, was the cool poster with the bloody candy cane. I spilled my guts a little more on this topic here: imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/204532/classics-last-week-dec-2020

Why I've only seen it twice is crazy to me! But, having such a huge gap in between viewings probably is why I loved seeing it again so much, I was not sure what would happen next. Seriously, this thing should be studied by future horror movie makers on how to do it right. It's the perfect Xmas movie for any horror fan!
