Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse) said that it will be the biggest DC show ever made. I guess we can kiss that film reboot good bye.
TEXT:
Greg Berlanti, the busiest man in genre television, and the man who helped bring the Arrowverse to life over on the CW is overseeing two new live action superhero series for HBO MAX. One of these is Strange Adventures, a superhero anthology series. The other is a mysterious title focused on the world of the Green Lantern Corps.
“Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television,” Berlanti said in a statement. “An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”
While no other details are currently available about this new Green Lantern TV series, one thing is certain: this isn’t a sequel to the disappointing 2011 movie that starred Ryan Reynolds. Will this show be set on Earth or the deepest reaches of space? Will it even focus on Hal Jordan, or will we finally get John Stewart in live action? Or could this series go all in and bring us Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, or even further back in the Green Lantern history?
It’s not clear at this time what this means for the prospects of the Green Lantern Corps movie that has long been in development at Warner Bros. Pictures under writers like Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer. In all likelihood, the HBO MAX series will replace that project, and this version of Green Lantern will be the definitive live action interpretation of this mythology for the foreseeable future.
No release date has been announced, but HBO MAX will launch in May of 2020, so don't expect this Green Lantern TV series any time before 2021. We'll update this as more information becomes available.

Berlanti fucked it up the first time That debacle was the fault of everyone involved. He’s no Scott Buck as it is.

Berlanti fucked it up the first time Because he tried to make a film that rivaled Iron Man instead of Star Wars. This time he is on the right track.

They are saying a $100 million between "Strange Adventures" and "Green Lantern". That's quite a bit seeing that the budget for season 6 of Game of Thrones was $100 million and that is probably one of the highest production budgets for a TV series. They are obviously trying to compete with rival shows like CBS All Access' "Star Trek: Discovery" and Disney +'s "Star Wars: The Madalorian".

I'm not going to get HBO Max, so I guess I'm out of luck unless they do a DVD release.

Shame Berlanti has to be at the helm. I wish they'd get someone better for a Green Lantern show.

I would prefer Ryan Reynolds return but I'm worried his constant ridiculing of the Green Lantern movie may put Warner Bros off bringing him back. Once in the first Deadpool movie was enough but he seems to be turning it into a side gig to his acting.

Marc Guggenheim talks about the upcoming series.
"...Green Lantern, we're approaching it as doing it distinct from the Arrowverse. It's not going to have any creative tendrils. But yeah, myself, Greg Berlanti, Lamont Magee, Geoff Johns, we've all got experience in the Arrowverse. I'm sure that in some way, shape, or form, the sensibilities but also a lot of lessons, we learned a lot of lessons across doing these shows both from a creative standpoint and a production standpoint. I'm sure we'll be bringing that experience to Green Lantern as we get deeper and deeper into the series."

Oddly, I think I'd like it if someone did a mini-series/limited-series about the Blue Lanterns. They are just fascinating.

"Yeah, that show is gigantic," Seth Grahame-Smith said. "It has taken quite a bit of time to get to this point and it's just a big, big undertaking. It's going really well. All I can say is that it's going really well and there are gonna be Green Lanterns in it, and it's gonna be on HBO Max." "I'll admit, I wasn't like a huge comic book kid," Grahame-Smith added. "I was a huge movie kid. And so, my introduction to DC Comics came through the '89 Batman movie. When that movie came out, I was like, "Oh, my God, Batman is the coolest," and I started reading Batman comic books. But Green Lantern is something that, to be honest with you, just came to me later, by way of just talking about doing the show. The possibility of doing the show led me down a deep dive of Green Lantern lore. We'll see. It's gonna be a while before the world gets to see that, but we are very, very busy at work, as we speak."
