I don't believe Madonna is iconic mostly because she didn't write her own songs. Most of her big hits were written by someone else. All the artists I mentioned above all wrote their own stuff or at least collaborated on it. These corporate created 'artists' of today are nothing more than real versions of Milli Vanilli.

I'm not sure if you are joking but if you're not then I strongly disagree with your list. The only way that you could be correct is if the meaning of the word "iconic" has changed to flash-in-the-pan, nothing special, anybody who won a piece of tin. "Iconic" means representative of something universal or something that is broadly known. What are any of the people in the list representative of? YOU are the one saying the people you listed are special. YOU said those immensely forgettable "artists" are examples of iconic. I disagreed. DP did you start celebrating Halloween early? Too many sour gummy bats or bite size dark chocolate kit kats have you confused?
